Bloodshot eye

Every couple of months I get slight pain on the right side of my head, followed by a bloodshot eye on the same side. My eye feels uncomfortable and it takes a few days to go. I’m not in pain as such it’s more just that I’m aware of it. This has been going on now for a couple of years.
I have had uveitis in my other eye several times and when I was last at hospital (well over a year ago) I mentioned this to the doctor and he said not to worry and that it was nothing (he had already checked both eyes ). So I’m left wondering if I just have to accept it. Does anyone else get this?

Erm, which uveitis clinic are you under? I'm surprised they didn't recommend that the next time it happens you head to an eye A&E unit to be checked for iritis. Did he give you any explanation of what it was?

And btw, hello, I don't come across many other uveitis people, apart from in clinic!

Hi. Thank you for your message. I was told to come back to A&E if it started again but these symptoms just don’t feel the same and the fact that it wears off after a couple of days means it surely can’t be uveitis?

You're probably right, but it's frustrating that he didn't say what it was, and I imagine hard not to worry. Maybe see your GP next time it happens to rule out anything else? Also, maybe try tracking it against periods and ovulation if you aren't yet menopausal. Both my migraines and iritis followed that pattern before I had my ovaries out. So sometimes I did get mild iritis symptoms for one week out of four. But I think that always left cells behind that they can see with the ophthalmoscope afterwards for several weeks so it was obvious it was doing something.

That’s an interesting point. I did think that it may be an allergy of some sort but Google tells me it’s quite uncommon to get it in one eye only. I am due an eye test soon so I’ll mention it then. Thank you for your messages.
