Verucca: 7 year old. Photos...I think I've made it worse 🤦‍♂️

I noticed a while back that my 7 year old had the start of a verucca. I thought I'd do what I thought was the right thing (I had one for years that wouldn't shift, until I had my first child and it disappeared 🤔) and tackle it early.

Asked pharmacy assistant, she recommended a gel to go on top and seal it.

It quite quickly started almost peeling off bar the bit in the middle, at which point I freaked out a bit as I looked up what I should do with it now and everything seemed to say don't try to treat, just leave it alone. Which I hadn't.

What was previously unnoticeable to him now seems more annoying, and I don't know whether I should continue with treatment, leave it alone, or see a health professional?

DS’s one peeled off in a big solid disc. I’d keep going with the stuff until it does that. It left quite a crater initially but that quickly filled in. It never returned.
Drs don’t do/prescribe anything for verrucas these days so I wouldn’t bother trying to see one tbh.

RhythmIsADisaster · 12/03/2025 20:04

My son 5 has just had a verruca. I used Bazula and it took agggeees to get rid of it but when it fell off it looked like your son's! As I understand when it turns black/dark like that it's dying so I'd say keep going!!

IggyAce · 12/03/2025 20:07

Keep going they take ages to go.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 12/03/2025 20:18

Ok thanks. I think I freaked myself out that I actually shouldn't have touched it. I was hoping to get on top of it before it was too set in or got sore. But have inadvertently made it sore. 🤦‍♂️ The circle around the core did peel off a bit and the centre was like a white root, but it now looks like the second pic.

The creams/gels/plasters work by irritating the skin so the immune system notices the wart. So it does often make it look worse before they go.

LuLuRN · 12/03/2025 20:25

That pretty much looks like it's working.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 21/04/2025 08:59

As an update, the other day it looked close to coming off. But this morning he says it hurts, and it has a red ring around it.

Does the red ring indicate anything?

This is quite an established verruca - I don’t think you caught it early. Continue treating it - will take months to go.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 21/04/2025 09:12

This is what it looked like when I first saw it, is this what you mean?

He said it hurt today which he hadn't before, which is what worried me about the red ring in this pic

I have no pearls. But I will relay the story of DS’s verucca that defied all OTC treatments. I took him to the chiropodist and as he too of his sock the fucking thing literally dropped off. I was still charged £50!

Barrenfieldoffucks · 21/04/2025 09:21

Ha! I think I feel extra worried because after starting treatment everything I saw said not to bother treating it. So it has gone from something small that didn't bother him at all to something that hurts etc when perhaps I shouldn't have done 🤦‍♂️

My daughter is having hers frozen off by our GP. We've been struggling on with OTC treatments and some prescribed stuff for a particularly persistent one for over a year and so the GP is freezing it off. She's had her first treatment and GP envisaged she'll need another 2/3 to get properly rid of it

Barrenfieldoffucks · 21/04/2025 09:23

Ok, so some medical people do treat them? That's reassuring, I thought I'd screwed up by starting to treat this. How old are the kids in question?

My daughter is 8. Last year we got prescribed some sacrilyic (prob spelt wrong) acid which didn't shift it permanently either so we went back and they offered to freeze. It didn't seem too painful for her either which was a relief

333FionaG · 21/04/2025 09:30

I had one of these on the sole of my foot for years, it was painful. It took one day in Turkey, walking from the sun lounger to the pool in bare feet, for it to disappear forever.

olympicsrock · 21/04/2025 09:34

Pictures look fine. This is a normal
appearance for a verruca being treated. Keep going . Most GPs will not offer treatment at all - you would usually be asked to see a private chiropodist or use over the counter medication.

olympicsrock · 21/04/2025 09:35

They usually become painful if you leave them as they get bigger so you haven’t done anything wrong .

confusedlots · 21/04/2025 09:52

Keep going with it. I used Bazuka on DS’s and it looked awful and was painful. Eventually it fell off and left a big crater but it’s all healed up again now.
