How does private healthcare work?

Hi, I live in the uk and if you do too you will be aware of the state the NHS is unfortunately in.

I've had concerning symptoms for quite some time and my GP is brushing them all of as anxiety (I do have health anxiety) but I don't feel reassured at all and I am concerned.

I would love to go to a private GP and get a full health MOT for peace of mind. How do I do this?

Do I need private health insurance? How does that work? Does that pay for some of the treatment?

Someone explain please thanks

You can just pay as a one off rather than subscribe. There are private gps available remotely, at private hospitals (like Bupa or Spire) , google them in your local area or you can just book a check up for your concerns like www.bupa.co.uk/health/health-assessments

As pp said, you can pay to see a GP privately without insurance. There are also quite a lot of “health check” packages on offer which might meet your need.

If you went for private health insurance, by default they usually don’t include check-ups, though these can be added, depending on the provider.

If you pay privately for the health MOT and something was found you’d then need to either pay for further tests / treatment or go back to the NHS, which will be subject to normal waiting time (and via your GP if a referral is needed - or regular medication etc).
