I am going to the opticians tomorrow and ive managed to get myself all worked up and scared

I know i sound silly but i am terrified ive had to force myself to go coz 1. i think im short sighted, cant see things far off out of my right eye but when i wear my mums short sighted glasses it corrects it. 2. when i read i get a tiny floating blind spot that will block off tiny bits of a letter,then disapears again out of right eye. 3. since yesterday when im looking outside in the sun i get a twinkling light from right eye (again) only lasts for a second or 2 and only after i blink. Im convinced theres gonna be something horribly wrong with me and ive managed to work myself into a right state Opticions can see all sorts of scary things with their tools cant they?

are they tiny little blobs a bit like bacteria or cells, and do they sort of bob around when you blink?

Yes it does look like a cell, but i only see it when i read. I have a big black fixed floater aswell. The flashing light is worrying me though, its only in the sun when it happens, Oh and also when i blink and look at a pale background i gte like an after image if that makes sense

I get floaters, which sound a little like what you are describing. these are not anything to be worried about, but get your eyes checked and put your mind ar 100% rest

floaters are very common, and more so if you are short sighted (I am very short sighted and have quite a few ).

also, if you don;t like the thought of wearing glasses, there are all sorts of contact lenses (inc daily disposable which are v v v easy).

I get most of them. The floaters are either bits of dirt, skin cells/whatever.
Opticians are great as they can scan Ds' eyes as he can't do normal eye tests.

If you are short sighted, the difference when you get your glasses/contacts will be amazing!! You'll wonder how you ever managed before.

I think everyone gets those after images don't they? I've had them all my life and regularly get eyes tested without a problem. You need to get tested to put your mind at rest, try not to worry it can't make anything worse, its not going to hurt you and correct glasses will only help. Good Luck.

Thanks ladies, thats made me feel a bit calmer and thanks CM, i will try not to, although when i was half way through typing this i was listening to my phone messages and the opticians have phoned with a 'courtesy' call reminding me of my appointment tomorrow, i only made the appointment this afternoon, It was the woman who made the appointment for me aswell , she must of thought i sounded a blabbering mess on the phone so she decided to remind me incase i was thinking of not showing up

Quick update, have had my appointment and my eyes are ok apart from i am short sighted in one eye adn have 3 floaters in my short sighted eye was minging lol, when he had the light in my eyes i could actually see the reflection of the blood vessels in my eye lol

I have already picked them lol, they are not amazing looking glasses but i wont be wearing them all the time, only when i need to read things far off etc

Ok, i have the specs, but i need to ask a question, when im wearing them, everything tilts to the left my keyboard looks almost horizontal, cant be normal right?

It can be normal if you have astigmatism; the tilting should resolve itself within a few days. If it doesn't resolve after a week, you should phone the optician for a re-check. But you do need to wear them a lot in order to adapt.
