Low Vitamin D

I have been feeling very run down over the last 4 weeks, so tired, headaches, dizziness, muscles twitching randomly, whole body feeling generally rubbish. initially the dr thought it was a chest infection and prescribed co-amoxiciclave. After a week still not any better so nurse took bloods. Everything came back fine other than low vitamin D level but not so low as to be considered deficient. They have given me a prescription anyway but I am just worried that there is more going on, can low vitamin D really cause you to feel so ill. Just looking for others experiences. I'm particularly worried about how tired and dizzy I have been feeling.

Yes, low Vitamin D can cause agonising bone pain for instance so fatiguewill definitelybe a symptom. To the point where you want to end things because of how painful and relentless it was (don't ask). Any low vitamin can cause havoc within the body.

Vitamin D deficiency symptoms in adults

  • Some people complain of a general tiredness, vague aches and pains and a general sense of not being well.
  • In more severe deficiency, there may be more severe pain and also weakness. Muscle weakness may cause difficulty in climbing stairs or getting up from the floor or a low chair, or can lead to the person walking with a waddling pattern.
  • Bones can feel painful to moderate pressure (often more noticeable in the ribs or shin bones). Bone pain often also occurs in the lower back, hips, pelvis, thighs and feet.

Edit - did you get your ferritin checked?

Yes it can. I had a Vitamin D deficiency for months without realising and it got to a point where I was falling asleep constantly in the middle of the day, still tired when I woke up, my shoulders, back, ankles and wrists hurt all the time. I was sleeping about 16 hours a day and my wrists hurt so much I couldn't carry a standard mug or dinner plate without my hands hurting, that's what led me to the GP. Six weeks of loading doses later and all my issues disappeared, the impact was huge.

I had all these symptoms and was peri menopausal.

Thank you all, all of my other bloods were fine, ferritin was above average which was surprising, initially the dr thought that was what it was. I just got the prescription yesterday so hopefully I will start to feel better in the next few weeks.

I started a vitamin D supplement and I did feel a difference, recently ran out and I can feel the difference in myself. It surprised me that it would do that
