What could be wrong with my DD20

Sorry this is long, I donst want to miss anything out if I can help it!

My daughter is at uni so was away when this started. Last Saturday morning (2am) she was awake as she couldn't sleep and suddenly got a shooting pain in the right back of her head. The pain shot down her right shoulder and her shoulder went numb then continued to have what she said felt like cold blasts of ice down her arm. She felt like her hand was freezing but I couldn't feel a difference when she got home. She took paracetamol every 4 hours but it did nothing for the pain in her arm. The head ache came and went with the ice blasts continuing. She felt very sick and said everything was 'wavy' vertically. She went to work but was sent home because she felt really ill and had trouble speaking, she knew what she wanted to say but couldn't find the words.

She stupidly drove home and then told me all this when she arrived, saying she was worrying all the way home she was dying. As soon as she told me all these symptoms I took her to an and e.

They were really good and said the pain being in the same side of her body as the numbness ruled out brain bleed or stroke and she looked too well. Her neurological tests were also fine. They slightly wrote her off once they knew she had anxiety which annoyed me but anyway said they thought it was probably a migraine.

She came home and slept for about 17 hours but felt no better. She has continued to have a head ache since then, so a week now, and for the last 4 days her right side has been numb on and off.

She is going to make a GP appointment tomorrow but does anyone have any ideas? What should we be asking about?

Thanks for reading

You are describing a migraine I think. A specific type the name of which escapes me. I hope she's on the road to recovery asap

Do you mean a hemiplegic migraine? In which case sounds similar.

Sounds like a hemiplegic migraine. My son had his first one at 16 and had numbness like you describe. He landed in hospital for 4 days on that first occasion. He still gets headaches but nothing like that first time.

The GP agreed it seems to be a Hemiplegic Migraine so well done all! She has been given tablets and hopefully they will work as she is already feeling a little better.
