10 day migraines- anyone experienced this?

Hoping to find some solidarity or advice if any of you have experienced this before.

I have been suffering with debilitating migraines and after diarising them to find a pattern I have noticed that they range from 1 day prior to ovulation right up until my period starts.
They vary in intensity and tend to taper off throughout this time.

I’m currently prescribed Nortriptyline which seems to have little to no effect and at present I’ve had to stop driving which has had a knock on effect to general life, work, family commitments and it’s really getting me down.

Has anyone experienced this or have any advice to offer please?
TIA

I have a condition called New Daily Persistent Headache - migraine type, which means I have some level of migraine/pain every day. When it first started and for several years after it would 'peak' into a full blown migraine several times a month and could last for days or weeks. Think the worst one was 3 full weeks of debilitating migraine. Its awful and you have my sympathy.

If your migraines are chronic, which it sounds like yours are, you should ask your Dr for a referral to a migraine clinic/neurologist. I have to travel to see mine as there is nothing local

I tried SO many different preventative medications including nortriptyline, amitriptyline, propranolol, canderstarten, gabapentin, topimarate etc. I then had botox injections and finally got prescribed Aimovig which is a monthly injection- thats finally helped! I also had rizatriptan for acute attacks but it made me really woozy so just started on a new acute medication called Rimegepant which is much better

Unfortunately with chronic migraines it can be alot of trial and error to find the thing that works for you. It does sound like yours could be hormone related so potentially some kind of hormone treatment could help

Yep. Horrendous daily migraines leading up to my period, started during peri. The nasal sumatriptan was the only thing that had any effect. When that stopped working I went on to injectable sumatriptan.

@HorrorFan81 @HoldingThePoisonDown Thank you so much. These are really helpful and I’ll be asking for a referral.
You've given me hope of a bit of normality returning because I’ve been agonising over this being ‘forever’ and I’m only mid 30’s ❤️

There are definitely options out there but it just might be a bit of trial and error to find the right one. Push for a referral asap so at least you can get started. Good luck 👍

@HorrorFan81 Thank you! I’ve booked a private neurology consultation for Tuesday (not holding out too much hope for a speedy NHS referral) and I’ve looked in to Botox too.
Feeling a little less like the end of the world today 🥹
Really appreciate your help ❤️
