DD age 5 I think she may have a hearing problem.

She had the test when she was newborn and that came back fine . However since starting school I notice she is missing a lot of things you say to her or completley ignoring me.

I did think she was just been a bit naughty at first but it has been going on for a couple of months now and you can tell sometimes that she genuinley hasn't heard you.

So what do I do next obviously I know I need to go the GP but does anyone know what I should expect or what questions I shoul;d ask ?

The gp will probably refer you to either audiology or ENT if they think there is a chance your dd has glue ear, but don't worry they do the same hearing tests which ever one you see. The test usually involves a child putting a man in a boat every time they hear a sound that the audiologist makes. They will normally look in the ears at the ear drum and may do a tympanogram which will show how much her ear drum is moving. It's not at all painfull, just requires your dd to sit still for a few seconds! If your dd passed the new born screening then the chances are it's more likely to be something like glue ear, does her hearing seem worse when she has a cold? Most audiologists are pretty good at making the hearing tests like a game and are used to small children that don't always want to cooperate.

The national deaf childrens society (NDCS) website has plenty of info about glue ear, hearing tests and the results and it's written in a very parent friendly way.
