I think I have this as my inner labia has disappeared although it happened years ago. What is terrifying me though is that I have read it can actually cause your urethra to close. Is there anything that can be done to prevent this.

You don't say how old you are but if you are peri or menopausal loss of oestrogen can cause vaginal atrophy. lt now goes under the title of urogenital atrophy as can affect vulva, vagina, bladder and urethra. Have you seen your GP?

You need to see your GP who will refer you to dermatology if they are worried.

It can lead to pretty drastic changes, but is also quite easily treatable with steroid creams. But any damage that has been done can't be reversed.

You need to get a GP referral (mine was to Gynae) as it is progressive over time and can cause quite a lot of scarring and yes, could cover your urethra, vaginal opening etc.
Steroid cream is generally what they prescribe, I have Betnovate. I get seen every year by the consultant as things are generally under control at the moment.

LS is not vaginal atrophy. It is an autoimmune condition where there is atrophy and scarring present externally.
However, the two can go hand in hand and low oestrogen can be a trigger.

@SabbatWheel Yes, l am aware of that but the OP wrote she thought she had LS not that she'd actually had it diagnosed. I suggested she see her GP to get checked as urogenital atrophy frequently goes undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. Of course it could be LS but either way she needs to see her GP.
