I haven't been feeling well and had some blood tests. Some came back abnormal. Can anyone take a look and let me know what the abnormal results mean and if my Ferritin is low? Thanks

The only things I can really see abnormal are to do with your cholesterol and one liver marker, which can also be linked to levels of bad cholesterol.

You have a low level of the ‘good’ cholesterol, you total cholesterol is slightly over range but most of it is made up of ‘bad’ cholesterol so your ratio of bad to good cholesterol is really high.

Have a look at heart uk, they have good info on eating to boost good & reduce bad cholesterol.

Your ferritin is 55, so ‘normal’ range, but it may not be optimal. Normal range is 30-400 so you’d likely feel better getting supplements and boosting it towards the 100 level, but a gp will tell you it’s fine, but iirc it needs to be above 70 for healthy hair growth.

I can’t see a HBA1C, maybe ask them to check for diabetes.

White cell count is marginally over range but that could be down to anything from a recent infection, being a smoker (?) recent heavy exercise etc

GG1986 · 01/03/2025 13:36

Your white blood cells and lymphocytes are slightly raised, have you been feeling unwell? Could be an infection maybe? Your cholesterol is think is a little high.
Serum alt is to do with your liver and is only slightly raised and could be down to fatty liver. I'm not a doctor, so you will need to speak with your gp and see what they say x

Bloodtests226 · 02/03/2025 00:08

Lymphocyte count
Red blood cell (RBC) count
Total white cell count
Serum HDL cholesterol level
Serum cholesterol

The above are abnormal and my Ferritin doesn't look very high. My cholesterol has been 5.2 for ages and it's probably to do with being overweight at the moment.

I don't drink, smoke or eat meat. My diet isn't too bad, olive oil, wholegrains, vegetables, tofu fruit, eggs, cheese etc

I feel awful. Breathless, fatigue, bone pain, joint stiffness. I haven't had a recent infection.

I bought some iron tablets.

HDL is good cholesterol, you can boost it by eating high omega 3 products, and exercising.
Being overweight isn’t a guarantee of high cholesterol so if your diet isn’t great you won’t feel great.
Lack of vitamin c or d can raise lymphocytes, as can inflammation, as well as infection.
You say you haven’t been I’ll but then say you don’t feel great so there could be something viral going on.
Dehydration can give a high RBC count. Sometimes it’s just a temporary blip then goes back to normal, just one of those things.
