Basal Cell Carcinoma on upper eyelid - feeling scared and shocked

I've had a little bump on my upper eyelid for 2 years. Spoken to GP and seen dermatologist twice and was told by both it was nothing to worry about. I insisted on being referred to eye specialist who said just from examining me, it's highly likely I have two basal cell carcinomas. The first one is the large bump and there is a smaller one along from it that just appeared out of nowhere.

im 47 and feeling quite scared. I know these are usually easily treated but I already suffer from health anxiety and anxiety in general.

i have finally gotten to a calm place in my life after a very turbulent 10 years and this happens.

im having mohs surgery in 5 weeks to remove them and chosen to go ahead without biopsy because i just want them gone even if they weren't bcc as they are getting larger and bothering me.

Worried I will look disfigured and feel angry at myself for the sun tanning I did over the years.

Really struggling mentally and can't focus on anything else.

Has anyone else had a bcc?

I have it on the side on my face, on my cheek, it's about the size of a lentil the surgeon told me not to over worry and in reality I could have left it another 10 years! I'm on the waiting list to get it removed. I'm not worried. I know someone who who had it for a very, very long time before getting it checked, they had it removed and they are fine now.

My Dad had a few of these and they were treated with radiotherapy and some of that frozen spray. His skin was beautiful afterwards! No disfigurements. I wish you the best OP. It is v common.. most of us will get one I'm sure at some stage.

Please dont worry. You may even be treated with just cream to have them removed.

95 year old mother had over 15 removed in a 20 year period. No issues no problems at all.

Dont spoil today worrying about BCC. It will be fine.

My dad has had a few. He had a few very small neat stitches and you wouldn't notice anything. Doctor wasn't worried.

I had one on my nose. The wait just to see a specialist on the nhs was months and then even more months to get it removed so I went private and had it removed by a plastic surgeon. I was anxious about having it removed but it was no problem.

Yeah Dh has had a few of these and had them removed. It's not the most fun day to get them removed but they've healed brilliantly and have been fine. Doctors seem to be very skilled at the procedure.

Oh and as a pp said, a friend had one on the top of her head which was just treated with a cream.

Glad to hear it’s a lot less terrifying than it sounds, op.
Good luck.

If the 'cream' is Efudix, no, it will not be used on OP's eyelid.

Its not Efudix as that is not recommended for use near eyes Confused

My dad also had one on an eyelid. Removed which left a tiny , very neat scar that faded to be almost invisible. No recurrence.
