Hi,
First of all, I am very anxious, please be kind. For context, I am a 36 year old female, fit and healthy and a normal weight, I exercise a lot- walk over an hour most days and eat well, I only have treats at the weekend. I have never drank or smoked. I have no family medical history, as I am adopted.
I have had a horrific 1,5 years, I lost my baby at 16 weeks pregnant, my mum was very ill and nearly died and I lost both of my uncles. As a result I have struggled a lot, with anxiety and stress.
I got my bloods done, to check my fertility. I have always struggled with hormones and felt something was out of zync. I was also taking longer than last time to become pregnant and this was adding to my worries.
My results came back good overall for the fertility bloods, apart from my prolactin, which was in the 900s. The Dr believes I have hyperprolactinemia or a prolactinoma. I have been referred to a Gynaecologist, Obstetrician to deal with this, I will need medication and might need an Mri, to see how the gland is operating. My estrogen was on the low end of normal, as was my vitamin d, despite supplementation. This makes a lot of sense, as prolactin is a stress hormone and I have that in abundance, I also carry a lot of water retention, at varying times in the month- my wedding ring fits one day and not the next. I have also had mastitis twice, outside of pregnancy and gone up a number of bra sizes. My arms are also larger (not fatter), just puffed out and hard (not muscle either) and my back is broader. These are all signs of higher than normal prolactin levels,
My GGT was also raised to 79 and all of my other liver enzymes came back normal. My cholesterol was also raised to 7, the Dr and more so I were shocked at this, as my diet and exercise are really very good. She referenced that it may be genetic. I had the blood tests done on day 2 of my cycle, she repeated them on day 7. I stopped all the supplementation, I had been taking to balance hormones, vitex, vitamin B6 etc, I just kept taking my high dose folate (as prescribed), vitamin d and probiotics. I did this to see how high the prolactin would get without them and to let my liver rest. Results have now come back worse- ALT is 42 from 32, GGT 110 and now Alkaline Phosphates are slightly raised . I feel perfect physically and all of my other bloods are in the optimal range. All hepatitis, coeliac, albumin, primary cholestatic etc are clear. I am in a tailspin that I have some form of liver or pancreatic cancer. I am surprised my ALP, AST CRP, Ferritin and Bilirubin are all normal if something is going on with the liver. Has anyone ever experienced this? My ALP and AST ratio are 0.7 and classed as normal. My trigs are in the optimal level.
The more logical side of me, wonders is there a correlation between the prolactin and the liver enzymes and cholesterol. I know hormones and the liver and cholesterol are linked and this would make sense. I was stressed getting the second blood test and can imagine this raised prolactin more. She did not test for the prolactin this time though .I could not find anything other than high cholesterol, specifically linked to prolactin. But found hormones are linked to liver and cholesterol and prolactin controls all hormones. Anyone experience a link before?
I have a GP appointment on Thursday morning.
I would appreciate any help or advice.
Thanks x
