Can't work out the exact cause of my daily nausea?

I've suffered with IBS for decades and for the last few years I also started to suffer from nausea, acid and burping. I attributed this to hormones and perimenopause as it was always worse mid cycle/ovulation but it's been bad the last two months and is very much getting me down now.

I'm 52, still in perimenopause as I have a cycle still.

I am always burping these days with a gnawing acid-like feeling and feel as though my stomach is always empty. The nausea can often be all day every day with gurgling. I can burp for ages after eating. I also suffer from diarrhoea often and constipation occasionally.

I do also have endometriosis/adenomyosis and I won't lie, I am under a lot of stress atm which I know does help these issues (bit of a vicious cycle really as the fear it's something bad is stressing me).

My GP isn't very helpful, she prescribed ppi's but they give me bad diarrhoea. I've been under a gastroenterologist for years, had a gastroscope in 2019 which was ok, a clear colonoscopy 18 months ago and also a clear bile acid malabsorption scan. She prescribed me an anti sickness meds but that doesn't get to the root cause of what's causing my daily issues.

I'm careful what I eat and drink, keep my weight down and exercise but am still struggling with this all the time.

Has anyone experienced this kind of thing? Did you ever rid yourself of it? Feeling sick all the time is bloody depressing.

Yes and going gluten free completely resolved it despite tests saying I wasn’t celiac

Yes and I will never give up my famotidine, all the -prazoles also give me horrific diarrhoea.

I have EDS so have a dodgy valve that doesn't hold contents in but also don't eat brilliantly well and am overweight

I have cut out acid forming foods and not touched dairy for years. I follow the low fodmap and s I'd watchers diet but I really need to give up gluten/wheat. I have tried and failed many times as sourdough is one of my only found pleasure left.
Do you eat many gf products? I find so many have other ingredients which upset me like inulin.

I have been offered famotidine but was put off as ppi's upset my tummy so much but perhaps I should try them. They are H2 blockers?

Interesting regarding EDS, I have joint hypermobility.

How did you discover the dodgy valve? I've had a gastroscope and a pill camera endoscopy but nothing was mentioned.

I find that eating gluten free is easiest if you base your diet round meat, fish, nuts, fruit, veg, rice and potatoes (I also eat a lot of oats although I know not everyone can).

Chocolate as treat food. Or sushi for savoury.

Rather than the negativity of substituting things you can't have with GF versions.

there are so many gf products about these days but I tend to eat less processed items, lots of fish, meat, fruit, veg, rice, potato’s.

The valve was a process of elimination, camera/biopsy/scan etc all normal but symptoms plus other joys of EDS (prolapsed bladder/bowel, multiple sublaxing joints etc etc) led specialist to 'diagnose' gut dysmotilty and loose valve. TBF he was the first person to suspect EDS rather than hypochondria that was alluded to. The fact that the famotidine does help I think helped support the theory.

Whilst JHS/EDS I know it's having a bit of a moment I just find the diagnosis useful when trying to link things together and not having to look for more sinister things each time

I think it's just the acid. Have you ever tried Esomeprazole? I've tried another two of the PPIs which didn't suit me but this one seems to work better and I don't seem to have any side effects yet, though I've only been taking it a few days. You can buy it in Boots/Superdrug etc but I intend to eventually ask for a prescription. I've had bad acid and burping, gurgling, also the nausea for a time, stress and menopause likely the cause for me. I know people say PPIs are bad for you long term but so is the additional anxiety these symptoms were causing me. Or as earlier pp said ask for Famotidine if PPI doesn't work. One Dr told me to never go for a long time without eating (I was avoiding food) an empty stomach makes the acid worse.

I think my GP has prescribed me most of the PPI's available but they all seem to upset my bowels.

I will ask for a trial of Famotidine though.
