My 7mo dd has a chest infection - the doctor was viral at the moment (rather than bacterial) and to see how it goes over the next couple of days and go back if it gets worse.
Is there anything we can do to prevent it getting worse? Is there anything we can do other than keep her dosed up with Calpol/Ibuprofen and let her sleep?

Humidifier? Keep the upper side of the body higher to facilitate breathing?

Raise the head of the cot (books under feet, or pillow under mattress), humidifier if you can or bowls of water under window if you can't, Karvol or Snufflebabe might help a bit...

My 18 mo dd has had lots and lots of chesty things this winter, and all those help. Medised has done too (when streaming/coughing) but of course its now not sold for under 2s except on prescription...so not much use telling you that, unless you have some in the house already.

Sleep is good, and as much water or BM as she wants, and do go back if you think she's breathing too fast, or her ribs are pulling in when she breathes, or temp goes up more etc. Hope she's better soon! xx

the best way i found to steam a room is to take your kettle upstairsfill it take the lid off and plug it in and switch it on as it boils lots of steam rises ...altho it goes without saying keep the baby in the cot and the steam not actually directed near him.

I found chest infections sad its awful to hear your lo all wheezy and coughy -poor baby x hope hes well soon
