Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and high ALT levels, anyone have experiences of this?

A week or two ago I posted about my concerns for my 19 year old ds. Over the last 18 months or so he has gained a lot of weight (around 7 or 8 stone) and has developed very unhealthy eating habits (takeaways, high fatty foods, energy drink set and no exercise).

I encouraged him to see the GP about this and she arranged blood tests. He received a call from her yesterday to say although most of his bloods had returned as normal, his ALT levels are quite high at 150 and should only be around 50. Due to this she is ordering a scan on his liver and he is currently at the GP surgery for a fasting blood test.

Google tells me that high ALT levels are associated with NAFLD. He doesn't drink much alcohol but has been eating lots of unhealthy foods over the last year or so I imagine he has put his poor liver under a lot of strain.

Obviously, this is a wake up call for him and now he is very worried it could be something serious. I am very concerned but am hoping this is indeed the wake up call that he needs and I will encourage him to adopt a healthy lifestyle from now on but wonder if anyone has any experience of this? How did you reverse this?
