Symptoms:
Hip pain
Pelvic pain
Lower back/coccyx pain
Intermittent numbness & tingling, cold feeling, buzzing sensation - lower back, bum, genital area.
Difficulty emptying bladder and bowels
Shooting pains vagina/bum/pelvic area
Weird neurological symptoms like twitching / muscle spasms / tremors.
Sometimes my whole spine feels 'wrong'.
Pain top of neck/base of skull
Top of head sore/sensitive to touch
Fatigue

I've had general pelvic/hip pain for a while but this all ramped up massively a couple of weeks ago when my lower back pain got increasingly worse and then the numbness appeared. Was sent to A&E in case of cauda equina. They didn't scan me but said it wasn't that. Apparently I have some sensation loss and slight weakness in left leg when compared to right. Also confirmed urinary retention. Have been referred to spinal team. However, I've only got a telephone appointment in a months time. I can't function properly at all atm, can't even sit properly, and in lots of pain. To make matters worse, I used a canesten pessary for thrush and had a bad reaction to it, despite using them before and being fine. So now my vag is sore and seems to be bleeding slightly. While I was putting sudacrem on the sore bits I noticed a bulge inside, which appears to be a bladder prolapse. This definitely was not there prior to all this shit with my back starting and I don't even think it was there before I used the pessary last week.

Feel like I'm absolutely falling to pieces and I don't know what to do anymore. I've had an ultrasound last month that showed my right ovary in my pouch of Douglas but otherwise it was apparently normal. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be going on? Also, does anyone know if there's any decent pain relief that won't impact my stomach? I have ibs/reflux and hiatus hernia so I tend to avoid nsaids. Particularly need to avoid anything that constipates.
Missed out on a gp appointment today. Trying tomorrow.

I'm sorry to see how much you're suffering, it sounds reallt awful. Are you able to take ibuprofen with your IBS? If so then taking paracetamol & ibuprofen together packs a real punch.

I'd also do what you can to push for an urgent appointment. I've heard that buzzing sensations in the back can be indicative of MS, which can be managed through medication. Flowers

Oh sorry, I just noticed you said no nsaids! :(

CreatingHavoc · 17/02/2025 15:28

@BeMoreAmandaland thank you, I might just have to try ibuprofen for a bit at least. I'll just have to make sure I take it with food. Paracetamol on its own is doing nothing really.

It's frustrating because the gp I saw previously said they wouldn't do anything as I've already been referred to the spinal team. She wouldn't refer for MRI or anything.

GP is being daft, ideally you should have an mri before seeing spinal team so they can look at your mri report during the appt. That's the way they do stuff round here. I'd also be asking for bloods for inflammatory markers - so like CRP, ANA and make sure nothing autoimmune going on.

Though it sounds more mechanical with nerve involvement. Which an MRI would spot as well as ruling out MS.

Pain killers - codine would help but massive reluctance to prescribe it now. Plus you said to avoid constipating drugs. They'd probably be keener to prescribe something like amytriptylene as good for nerve pain - I found it useless and turned me into a zombie but others get on with it better.

If you do attempt ibuprofen, make sure you're also taking your anti acid meds and drink lots of peppermint tea (it helps!).
Also space out the doses a bit more, so 6 hour gap rather than 4.

I agree with @CerealPosterHere your gp should be taking this more seriously. Can you get a second opinion?

CreatingHavoc · 17/02/2025 17:03

@BeMoreAmandaland yeah I'm going to try and get an appointment tomorrow morning to see a different gp. It's just so frustrating trying to get anything out of them.

How are you doing now OP? I just found this thread via Google as I’ve got low back / upper buttock pain with some buzzing sensations. Did you ever get yours resolved?

CreatingHavoc · 08/06/2025 12:20

@MapleTreesRed not yet. Buying special coccyx cushions to sit on has helped and limiting my time sitting. I'm waiting on MRI results of my whole spine so will see what comes from that I guess.

Sorry to hear it, hope the MRI results give you some answers.

Glad you had an MRI you will receive better treatment going forward once you have a diagnosis. I'm back off to the consultant because of bladder issues and trouble walking now.
