Thinking about reflexology - what to expect?

Have been thinking about having reflexology for general stress management. If anyone has had this, what is a session like? Can I remain fully dressed? Also a little worried I might be too ticklish for it! Did you feel self-conscious with your feet in front of a stranger? Be grateful to hear how it went for you, good or bad.

I had two sessions of it about 24 years ago. They only work on your feet so you stay dressed.

The thing that surprised me was how sick I felt afterwards both times, like coming down with the flu. That only lasted a day or so. It definitely churned something up.

I did it for a magazine story so I wasn't really ill so I can't comment on its effectiveness.

I'm not at all ticklish so that wasn't a problem. It did hurt a bit at times, but was generally pleasant.

I helped out a friend by letting her practice on me while she was training to be a reflexologist. I only did it the one time as I found that I wasn't comfortable with it at all.

I didn't mind the foot pressing, it wasn't ticklish or painful. What I didn't realise was that I'd be asked about my medical history beforehand and I felt very uncomfortable being asked to reveal private information to someone who I don't regard as a medical professional, whether qualified or not.

I suppose I see reflexology as a relaxation aid rather than a valid health treatment. It did nothing for me, but I admit my scepticism didn't help.

Oh great, thanks for that. I don't suppose your article is online? Maybe 24 yrs ago makes that unlikely! Anyway, feel encouraged to give it a try. Does it matter what I wear?

Ah yes, I can see that might be uncomfortable DramaA, I hadn't thought about that. As long as they are confidential I suppose it's ok. It's more the physical aspects and getting my feet scrutinised that I am thinking about! You were treated by a friend, but I would be seeing a stranger!

I love it! I only stopped because my reflexologist moved out of London. Wish I could find someone else who isn’t extortionate / too far away. I’ve had it on and off for many years.

Suggest you don’t wear a skirt / dress in case you’re sitting / lying in a more revealing position although any good therapist will you give you a towel to cover up if needed. (Some do it with you seated in a chair, some use a massage bed so you’re lying down).
