My son has had problems with his pooing since birth we are under a hospital and waiting to be seen however, for the past 3 weeks now he keeps randomly being sick he can go days being ok then is sick and it's like curdled milk also his poo is really light yellow it's been like this for a while? Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or has any ideas what this could be? I keep taking him back to doctors and they say because he is happy they aren't worried but I am starting to get worried now. I'm also a first time mum so this could be compelltey normal I'm just unsure.

I'm no expert that I can't see that being normal. Have you tried ruling out things like dairy allergy etc?

Imisscoffee2021 · 15/02/2025 20:20

I would have him seen as isn't that blood in the stool? My sons nappies were this colour when he was very small and had undigested milk fats in which were curdled bits, he had cmpa and once we got him on the right formula they were normal, but this was when he was about 6 weeks to 2 months old. A tiny spot of blood in his nappy is what made the health visitor realise it wasn't normal, his gut was irritated severely.

He was dairy free from about 4 weeks old and when he had his 1 year Assesment they told me to do the milk ladder so I did and he seemed fine but even when he was dairy free his poo was the same colour. His nursery told me he did a poo on Friday they are going to send the pic to me on Monday and they said they had never seen a poo so light coloured before

The presence of what looks like mucus there also suggests an irritation in the gut.

Ellayxx · 15/02/2025 20:23

I have had him seen by the doctor, he's had blood in his poo before and they told me that because it's on the outside it isn't something to worry about and that it is most likely because it is hard. I do feel like I am the only one who seems to be concerned but unsure how I go about it with them for them to look into it further

His poo has also been tested sorry and it came back with high protein levels?

I would definitely visit the Gp and be very persistent about a referral to the hospital. Light coloured stools can be due to diet but can also be caused by medical reasons too. Has he had any blood tests?

Imisscoffee2021 · 15/02/2025 20:25

What's his diet like? High protein, much fibre etc?

Ellayxx · 15/02/2025 20:28

No he hasn't had a blood test I have asked but they told me there was no need for it... atm I am struggling to get him to eat much which again I told the doctor this and she told me to give him what I know he will eat, he has been eating toast, rich tea biscuits, weetabix, he did eat some mash, carrots and gravy tonight, he also will eat banana but I am struggling he used to be a really good eater and the past few weeks it has gone downhill

I’m guessing the gp has actually checked he’s not constipated?

It could be his poo is just seepage around the compaction. He’s being sick because his milk can’t go down, therefore comes up again.

I would be going back to the GP and asking for a referral to a paediatric gastroenterologist.

Ellayxx · 15/02/2025 20:30

He has been referred to hospital about it, but we have been on the waiting list for a long time I keep ringing and pestering but get told the same thing every time

Every time I take him they feel his stomach and say that it is nice and soft

Contact the consultants’s secretary and find out how long the waiting list is now.
Ask that you have the next cancellation appointment.

The only time DS's poo was that colour was when he had an infection. I would stamp by feet a bit.

Sorry to resurrect this but did you end up getting to the bottom of this! Going through almost exactly the same now, except we’re pretty sure my baby is lactose intolerant so he’s dairy free.
