The Optician said my eyes were fine, so why does my left eye feel like it's going to burst?

Have been getting a lot of pain in ym head and over my left eye, quite frequently. Today I have woken up ( the pain woke me at 4am) and the pain is still there now, and I have flashing lights and blue spots in it - like the aura of a migraine. I feel really sick as well.
Have tried to get into docotors today, but can't till Monday and am supposed to be working in an hour and a half!

I now have a tingly tongue and have been sick!
Is this a migraine? I haven't had one for a while and it used to be on both sides of the head

If you are in London could you get to Moorfields, they have a very good eye A&E dept? I don't suffer from migraines but it sounds like it could be that.

Sounds like a migraine to me but you really need to get it checked out if you haven't had migraines before.

SaintGeorge · 09/05/2008 10:55

Hmm, rethinking that you probably have had migraines before what with your Fibromyalgia and all .

Still think you should get it checked out. Try GP again, tell them it is an emergency. Failing that, NHS direct or A & E.

Sudden onset (or worsening of established) migraine should always be taken seriously.

Hope you feel better soon x

I ahve had migraines before, just not like this, usually they were on both sides fo my head, and I had terrible auras.
I have called HNS direct and they said it sounds like either a migraine (which as St George said could be triggered by the Fibro) or something called cluster headaches.!
I have called the GP and told them that I had spoken to the NHS direct and he said he has written a prescription for something that sounded like Sumatriptin, as he thinks it's a migraine and the facial pain and tingling is the Fibro, but wants me to go in on Monday to see him and get checked out

Sumatriptan, generic name, advertised on TV as Imigran or Imigran Recovery.

I find it excellent for my migraines.

Hope it does the trick for you. Let us know what the doc says next week.

Cluster headaches are intensely painful. Usually of fairly short duration (20mins or so IME). They can start like a bolt from the blue and vanish just as suddenly, only to reappear again - sometimes within minutes.

I had them a few years ago (after viral meningitis) and I never had any sort of aura with them. I found them totally incapacitating, but thankfully the sumatriptan worked for them too.

These have been coming and going quite a lot, but if auras and visual disturbances aren't normal with cluster headaches, then it's probably a migraine. I have taken 2 Syndol which helped a bit - and the pain is gone behind my eye, but I still have a headahce

Well, I didn't have auras certainly. Not sure if that is normal or not.

Have to dash to work so haven't read it properly myself yet, but Wiki have what looks like a good piece on cluster headaches.
