Should I give more Calpol ?

DD had a temperature of 39.6. We have a 5 ml dose of calpol at bedtime and gave her a bottle of milk. She then vomitted everywhere. This was about an hour ago. Her temperature is still 39.2 and she won't go to sleep.

Do you think I can assume the Calpol was vomitted up and therefore its safe to give another dose ?

She was 1 last week btw

Do you have any childrens ibuprofen? This will also have a temperature reducing effect and can be given safely alongside paracetomol like calpol.

Is she OK other than temp/sickness??No rashes or anything??

TillyScoutsmum · 08/05/2008 20:46

We have children's nurofen - but its orange flavoured and it always makes her sick

I would stick to water, btw if she is vomiting, rather than milk

No rashes. Has had a temp all day and been off her food but regular calpol doses have brought it down. She's been ok in herself (a bit whingey but ok). She's just bloody exhausted

Poor girlI think yopudbe ok giving more calpol, think you casn give 2 5ml doses over age of 1.Will check...

susiecutiebananas · 08/05/2008 20:53

tilly Well, she can actually have a 10ml dose at 1 year of age. It is of course better not to give the full dose at the lower end of the age range, however, it states that 5-10 mls may be given, for a 1 - 6 year old. SO, if you think the calpol was vomited up, then it would be ok to give it, as even if it wasn't vomited it is still within the safe dosage for her age - it would not be stated at all if it were not safe.

Hope that makes sense, and that it helps

Ooops meant to be a sad face not a smile one.Have just checked calpol box and it says "Over 1 year 1-2 5ml sachets"So she'll be fine with another sachet.HTH

Double checked it in my BNF, and it is safe to give 10mls of paracetamol suspension in an infant of 12 months of age. HTH

Thanks all... I know I'm paranoid (pfb ), but she was only 1 a couple of days ago and I just can't get my head round being able to give her effectively a double dose. She seems to have gone to sleep at the moment (dp did a great job of cuddling to sleep ). Will give her some more though if she wakes again
