Lower right abdominal pain (GP again or A&E?)

For the last 3 weeks I have been suffering with lower right abdominal pain and some stomach issues. I have been to A&E once with it and to the doctors on two occasions. I am not able to do my normal activities - if I do I am doubled over by the end of the day.

The pain is like a stabbing pain, sometimes aches in the front and lower back, all on the right hand side. Sometimes it just feels like pressure but it is not going away.

I had an ultrasound scan which did not show my appendix. My inflammation markers are normal and no temperature, so the investigation process seems slow. Next scan is for the ovaries but doesn't seem to be happening any time soon. Fit test is normal.

I am really not sure what to do at this point. It really fits all the symptoms of appendicitis. Although, it all started after I had a pretty hard fall on my bottom - I wonder if this caused an internal injury (but Drs didn't seem to think it was linked). I am also open to the idea that it could be an ovarian cyst. I am wondering whether to go to GP again. If I do I am not sure what I should be asking for - perhaps a CT scan to see everything in that area? (I don't even know if that is possible, I also don't know how urgent these scans can be). The GP has mentioned that going back to A&E could be an option, but I am not sure if this is the bet route to take as the pain is not excruciating and I have no temperature.

I am just looking for advice and some ideas about what to discuss with the doctors as I really don't feel like I can put up with this for much longer. I am not very good at advocating for myself at the doctors.

Kidney stones are a possibility, too. (& yes a CT scan would show this)

Ah thank you. I think they ruled it out after checking my urine perhaps? But I will ask about that.

Had similar for many years mine was originally caused by endometriosis on the right hand side.
I now have fibroids and cysts there too which were picked up by an internal ultrasound, which I ended up
paying for out of my savings.
Next stage for me is a partial hysterectomy. The agony is a real 10/10 I have been to A and E when I’ve passed out and they’ve just put me on morphine for a bit and sent me home.
One thing I have learned is that you have to advocate for yourself as otherwise you do tend to get fobbed off as a woman.

They can’t rule out kidney stones via urine. Contrary to popular belief kidney stones don’t always cause an infection or blood (which a what a urine sample looks for) as sometimes they can just be large enough to cause pain or a blockage ie a physical issue without infection. (Long term sufferer of bladder issues and kidney stones here)! You’d need an ultrasound scan to rule them out, and even then tiny ones don’t always show up.

So sorry you are going through this, I hope the operation comes through for you soon and that you feel much better.

I definitely feel like I am not being taken seriously enough about it but perhaps I am just naïve to how long investigations take.

Thank you for the info! I am having stomach issues (stool changes and cramps) also - would this explain that too?

Sorry you’re going through that it sounds dreadful. A CT scan of your abdomen and pelvis would show all relevant organs.

I’ve had kidney stones and didn’t have any bowel changes but that might be different for others. I know endometriosis can attach to your bowel and cause problems.

I really hope someone starts listening to you soon.

Thank you so much for your reply. I will ask for a CT scan and see what they say (I wonder why this isn't the first option given the symptoms but I am sure there are all sorts of complex answers!)

The plot thickens - it appears the request for ovary ultrasound has been denied, no reason given yet, so there is likely no hope of getting a CT scan. Not sure what to do with this information, I will see what the Dr says and go from there.

Oh I’m so sorry to hear that. I have little practical advice I’m afraid as I’m not in the UK. Your symptoms sound significant to me so I would continue to push or seek a scan privately if you are in a position to do that.

Thank you @Remaker - I will continue to push.
