Treatment for caustic soda burn on bottom!

ToThineOwnSelf · 10/02/2025 17:51

I sat on caustic soda which had been left on a toilet seat (not be me!) and it wasn’t visible, it stung immediately.

I sat in the bath immediately afterwards as per Dr Google but I’m not sure what’s best for it now, I can see some red patches on the skin.

Does anyone have any experience of this? I’m thinking to use some after sun.

It’s a chemical burn. You need to consult a medical professional, not put aftersun on it. Can you see your practice nurse? Or phone 111?

You need to go to A&E for chemical burns. Especially, alkaline burns as they can penetrate to deep layers of the skin.

You should flush it with RUNNING lukewarm water for a long time. I would flush it more, then head to A&E.

Thank you. I’ll try contacting them tomorrow

you need to get it looked at today

Agree A&E.
Also first aid for chemical burns is to run water over the continuously for 20 minutes, not sit in the bath (where the chemical remains in contact with skin) so at least jump in the shower and use cool/cold water.

Yourinmyspot · 10/02/2025 22:27

I think you need to get it seen. I had a chemical burn last year and went to a&e.

Don't put anything on it other than running water.. At least 20 minutes then you need to be seen to assess the severity
