Urticaria can be a response to a virus - could the other symptoms fit a virus?

Thank you, yes, it certainly can and I have been doing a bit of research and am struggling to come up with anything as most of the viruses have other obvious symptoms of being unwell such as sore throat etc which I don’t have. I’m stumped!

I had (short lived) urticaria when I had what I assume was COVID in Jan/Feb 2020... Some virus do seem to do that...

Not sure if it's been mentioned but any potential chance of HIV infection? You mentioned a recent tattoo and prone to more viral illnesses lately and run down tired achy. Very treatable. But if you think it's a possibility better to be tested sooner rather than later.

Gosh it hadn’t crossed my mind so thank you for the heads up!

I was wondering maybe a reaction to the tattoo ink? https://www.healthline.com/health/tattoo-allergy#is-removal-necessary

Just to rule HIV out as the cause if you are in England it was HIV testing week last week. You can get a free postal test here. If not in England google your local sexual health clinic and follow the links to get free online tests. As mentioned nowadays it's a manageable, treated illness https://freetesting.hiv/?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADwfC4-6eXefpp9odA2myCtt5WzaD&gclid=CjwKCAiA2cu9BhBhEiwAft6IxP6f8MPHe-B1Px73qI9drvnq4qFzXaBU0mA9xFd9DcB0XABn8bXkDRoCv_4QAvD_BwE

As others have mentioned I would also see if blood tests have been done to check for any autoimmune markers https://www.verywellhealth.com/autoimmune-blood-test-5112938

Thank you for your helpful response. Looking into the free postal testing as we speak, so thanks for that!

Tattoo seems ok have looked at the signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction to the ink and it seems to be fine.

regarding my blood tests it looks like he hasn’t requested any auto immune markers.. why on earth he hasn’t done I will never know! I’m not sure what to do going forward because I still feel really generally off - new symptoms every day including lower back pains and stomach problems.

It is school holidays so have been out with my children and when I was out I was absolutely freezing cold..the wind absolutely just penetrated my skin! I usually feel the cold but today has been unbelievable. It took me a good hour to warm up after I came home and I am exhausted. No appetite either which, for me, is so unusual as I normally love my food and feel hungry a lot! It is like my ability to feel hunger has just disappeared.

so unusual and worrying.. the blood tests included fbc and liver and also urea and electrolytes but that is all and now I am concerned if something has been missed and don’t know what to do! I should really phone the gp in the morning I just know they will say my bloods where normal and satisfactory. 😫

Another update: Dr has prescribed antibiotics for an infection.. we don’t know what infection but because a gland in my throat/neck area is extremely swollen he wants to put me on a 7day course of antibiotic treatment. I really hope this works because I’m struggling to figure out what sort of infection I could have that match my ever growing list of symptoms! he said my inflammation blood test was fine etc etc so who knows! I just want to feel normal again! 🙂

Normal Total immunoglobulin level range here is: 0-81 mine has just come back as 222. And my allergy blood tests came back as normal .. not sure if anyone will see this but if by chance any one does do you have an idea what that result means? Still feel totally rubbish and run down 😥

My daughter & nephew both when coming down with a cold /flu/ bug get hives - various levels. Once she was very swollen around face and eyes so a trip a&e after a call to 111.

its frustrating as the hives the trigger her eczema so often the cycle is hives, cold, eczema can leave her feeling rubbish for a few weeks!!

Apparently is due to her body reacting to the virus - the cold comes a few days later. As soon as I see a swelling in her hands …I know what’s coming!

AmusedGoose · 19/02/2025 11:27

I get this. Thought it was gnat bites!

WhereIsMyPhone · 19/02/2025 11:32

Thanks guys. Neck area around where throat is is very swollen and feels tight, no sore throat though.
