I have over the last few years developed dandruff, my scalp seems dry and scabby? Its not noticeable through my hair, but I can feel it when I run my fingers across my scalp and then I have a snow storm on my shoulders.

I also have very dry skin on my face and I trying to get into a routine with skincare to stop this.

Can anyone recommend a good shampoo for this? Am I better going for standard head & shoulders or would I be better with medicated. I have tried Lacura dupe H&S and Vosene There are so many on the market but they are quite pricey and I don't want to pay a fortune for something that doesn't work. (I know they aren't an actual fortune but money is tight)

Oils can make it worse x

I have seb derm (flaky scalp and flaky patches on face) but it's nearly completely in remission now.

For the scalp, try Nizoral or Selsun shampoos - both available over the counter but you need to ask the pharmacist for them.

For the skin: mine got a lot dryer during perimeno and I now have the kind of five-step routine I used to sneer at 😆. I cleanse with micellar water, then use an exfoliating/brightening toner like Pixi Glow Tonic, then a serum (I favour anti wrinkle serums but there are lots out there), a good eye cream, and a moisturiser - something with high SPF during the day, and then something richer last thing. Skin is like a different person's skin since I started doing this. Brands matter less than the attention so start with whatever's on sale.

PS I do a double cleanse on the days I go into London or similar big city, so on those days I follow the micellar water with a gel or cream cleanser before using toner

Head and Shoulders, the one for itchy scalp. For your hairline ,MooGoo scalp cream which is excellent.

You might be best to treat it from the inside out, ie. by making changes to your diet. Hope these articles are helpful.

Thanks, I will look into this. I am prediabetic so already trying to cut carbs and sugar out, hopefully this will have a positive effect

This itchy scalp Head and shoulders is the only thing that works for my DC's dandruff. I've tried lots of more expensive things along the way

Have just ordered some of Neutragena's water-based skincare products to try as they're supposed to be particularly good for seb derm and don't clog pores like oil based products do. They do a day cream with SPF, a night cream and a serum as well as a body cream.

I've got psoriasis on my scalp. I find that some shampoo works for a while and then stop being as effective so use them in rotation. Body shop ginger, h&s itchy scalp both good. Current favourite is capasel. It's good for my scalp but not so great for my hair so try to only use once or twice a week to keep on top of it all. It has a very strong smell but really works.

Use a shampoo with selenium in it, I always find these fix the dandruff problem.

Is it dandruff or dry scalp? H&S do a leave in scalp serum thing that helps with the dry scalp and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. There are loads of products which are pricey only to find they don't help.

Not sure the difference, I can see my scalp is dry, but also I get little scabs, but then i'm perimenopause and sweating alot so that could be causing it
