Excema in 3mo - what to do?!

My beautiful 3mo DD has excema on her body which does not seem to be troubling her but certainly looks uncomfortable. I'm managing this by using olive oil on her skin & have just started using junior oilatum in her bath. Any tips on how to manage/what to use (or not use!)would be gratefully received! Also - as I'm bf any foods I should be avoiding?

Hi

Sorry to hear about your little girl.

Both my boys have excema. Really I think you just have to find what works best for you.
I find that it's best to use hydrocortisone as soon as you spot a flare up. It minimises it's usage and they can do so much damage once they start to scratch.

Lots of people on here recommend Aveeno cream.

Also, I wouldn't worry about what you eat. You're giving her the best possible food.

I do know a few people whos dcs started very young with excema but then grew out of it young too.

Good luck.

With our DD who is also almost 3 months, we took her to the doc who prescribed some special cream for her which fixed it in about a week flat lol! Best advice, talk to your doctor :-)

With regards to your eating habbits, always remember that your DD will eat whatever you eat so if you have a hot chilli, your milk will have a trace of the chilli in it. Strange but true!

My DW goes to a "well baby" clinic that the NHS put on, they have health workers there that offer a wealth of advice for just about anything you could think of asking!

How is she in herself? Is she calm or hyper? Am only asking as my DS had it when he was tiny and I realised in the end that it was stress related. He was a colicky baby and slept badly. Once I'd got the sleep sorted, the problem went. I tried various things via the GP, but nothing worked. Not surprising really...

Look on the 'allergies' section. You will find a whole host of mums who have given advice on managing excema. My ds had it from 3 weeks old and had it very severley until he was about 2 1/2 (we couldn't even dress him until he was 2 - he had to wear excema suits/clothing). Now it is more moderate but will become severe if we don't follow a strict regime. Aveeno is excellent. We use aveeno oil in the bath, aveeno body wash on a (natural) sponge and then aveeno moisterizer twice a day on all of body. SOS Cream by barefoot botanicals is amazing stuff too. He has this 3 X daily on face.I hope you find all the advice that you need here on mumsnet.
