Hi

Has anyone used scar tape and does it work? If so, are there are brands anyone can recommend?

Thanks

I used Kelinul tape on an 6 inch operation scar on my neck/throat and the scar is almost invisible.
I used the tape from 3 weeks post op for about 5 months, for about 10/12 hours during the day (didn’t like the feel of it overnight) so took it off and washed it and left it to dry for use the next day, new piece every week. Used about half the box in the 5 months. Would highly recommend. If you PM I will share photos if you want.

oh yes please! My daughter has just had her dressing removed, so is only 2.5 weeks sine the operation, but saw a newspaper advert for this and was hoping they would work x

I was told by my surgeon (a scarring expert) to use normal micropore tape. My scar is barely visible - although of course I don't know if that's thanks to the tape or not! He told me not to change it daily as it disturbs the healing process.

I never knew this was a thing. Does it help with raised scars? And would it work starting 5 months post op?

The information sheet with the tape I used did say it could be effective on ‘old’ scars, and at c£20 a box (I only used half of a box over the 5 months I used it), I’d say it was worth a try if the scar bothers you. My operation scar was approx 5 inches long on the base of my neck at the front, and was quite lumpy post op because I had a bleed and a clot removed 2 days post op. It also felt tight. I think the tape helped to soften and flatten the scar, so that it is now almost invisible.

Thank you it's only the bumpy hits that bother me. They don't seem to be reducing. Think it's just how they stitched me back up. It's on my wrist so fairly visible or will be when I get over the deformity and allow it to be on show. Oddly the part that has healed best and is just a silvery line is on the edge of a tattoo.

@PerpetualstateofchaosI used Kelinul scar tape, which is £15-20 a pack, but there are other brands. If you use that as a search term, there’s lots of reviews about silicone tapes on scars. If you can afford it, I’d give it a try.
