Incorrect diagnosis in A&E….kidney infection?

Sunday I woke up in a lot of pain which got worse as the day progressed. At first I thought I had an ovarian cyst or twisted ovary. The pain got so bad that I was shaking and crying. I have a high pain threshold and have given birth with no pain relief and coped with appendicitis pain in the past…this was way worse. I ended up having to go to A&E in an ambulance and was given the maximum amount of morphine by the ambulance crew before being taken. Once at A&E my pain was some what under control and I was totally spaced out on the morphine. I was left to join the queue of people in A&E which wasn’t the best experience. I had bloods taken and had to wait a few hours to be seen. When I was examined by the doctor I was still pretty drugged up from the morphine so he recorded that my pain was mild. My bloods didn’t show anything major, my white blood cells were raised but other markers were not. The doctor said I probably have a uti or kidney infection. I have had UTI’s before but nothing that felt this painful, no temp, heart rate and oxygen normal. I was sent home with 7 days of antibiotics.

I’m now on day 3 of antibiotics and I still have some pain (not as painful as Sunday but uncomfortable). I’m not sleeping well and waking up feeling like I’m having a panic attack. I definitely don’t feel myself. I’m cold all the time and feeling dizzy. I’m booked in for another blood test Friday to see if there’s any late indications of infection other than the white blood cells.

Pain was in my lower right side, lower back and radiating down my thighs. I really did think it was ovarian pain. There was pain when went to the loo but not uti type pain. A few people have suggested Kidney stones but I’m unsure.

Do I just carry in with the antibiotics and see how I am when they finish? Do I wait and see what shows up in my bloods? I can’t seem to access my blood results from Sunday on NHS app.

Do I make a GP appointment and ask their opinion?

So you haven’t actually been given an incorrect diagnosis then. The doc said ‘probably’ meaning it could be that or something else. Your pain is diminishing. If you’re concerned that youre getting worse, either ring 111 or see your GP.

Yes go to your GP and ask for a follow up

Doctor said that he can’t think what else it could be as my liver function was fine (so not liver), I no longer have my appendix (so not that) and he didn’t think it was ovarian pain….so has to be my kidney? The fact I have raised white blood cells indicates possible infection so that what they are treating it as and what is written in my discharge notes. I didn’t have a urine sample dipped..l.which I think is the only way they would have known for sure.

Just posting again in hope someone might be able to advise, and updating.

I went back to the GP on Thursday, he dipped my urine and it was all clear of infection. I’m still getting pain on my lower right side and it now feels more like bladder pain and similar to uti pain but I’m not having any pain when I pee and no real urgency. I finish my course of antibiotics tomorrow and have been told to go back to the gp next week if I’m still in pain. Pain is no longer constant but definitely worse in the evenings. So if there’s no sign of infection it’s unlikely to be a uti/kidney infection, though my blood showed high white blood cells?

I feel better than I did last Sunday but still feel exhausted and the pain is still there (not constantly).
