No need to worry Op
The pharmacist adds the water
It's ready to use when you get it

I don’t live in the UK and we often do have to add water to antibiotics before administering them - but that’s because they are stored in the sterile bottle as a powder. Most of the bottles of antibiotics where I’ve had to do this have a line on the side to show where 60mL (or whatever the required amount is) will increase the volume to. Usually it’s about 3/4 of the way up the side of the bottle - that leaves room to shake the bottle to combine the contents. With the bottles I’ve seen, you couldn’t add 60mL of water twice over because it wouldn’t fit in the bottle.

The pharmacist added the liquid for you OP. That’s normally what they do.

It comes in powder form to the pharmacy because you can store it for ages like this. Once made up it has to be used in a week or two.

I’ve occasionally got antibiotics in powdered form from the pharmacy if the GP wasn’t sure if the kids needed the antibiotic or not…said to hold off for a day or two and see…but in a long weekend type situation I was given the antibiotic myself as a powder and told how to make it up with sterile water if needed.

The diluting instructions are on the outer box.
The pharmacy label doesn't say this, just the 5ml dose 3 times daily.
I feel like a right plonker now... if I wasn't already feeling bad enough!

You aren’t a plonker!

It can be very confusing, and I think you’ve done exactly the right thing by checking. Hope your daughter is starting to feel better.

Phew! I clearly do not have the mental capacity to work that out. Looking at the bottle, they must've added the water, it wouldn't have been large enough to hold another 60ml at home.
Confusing in my blind panic. It caught my eye when giving her afternoon dose today and I thought the worst.

Thank you all

Ah no, it’s confusing. It’s great it’s all ok and no mistake has been made. Hope your DD feels better soon.

If this helps at all i'm a veterinary nurse ,we use similar human meds which come in a sealed bottle in powdered form ,we always dispense them already diluted to the client ,every single time ,so the dose on the label relates to the product in its liquid form, i would get this checked in your situation but i think it was probably given to you with water already added .
