Steroid injection into arthritic bunion - GP or hospital ??

Hi all, could anybody please tell me about their experiences of getting steroid injections into a bunion? I was diagnosed with an arthritic bunion on my left foot about 10 years ago and have been managing with insoles/orthotics and a very limited range of shoes… but in some pain every day.

I’m nearly 40 now and things have ramped up a bit and I’m hobbling around a lot of the time. I’m really nervous about any kind of Surgery and I have two small children, so there’s no way I can be off my feet for eight weeks.

I’m thinking of going to the GP to discuss the possibility of injections into the bunion.

Has anybody got specific experience of this? I’m keen to know if it be done by the GP or would it mean a hospital referral (which means I’ll be waiting for months).

Thank you

It would be an orthopaedic referral here. Some gp practices will do steroid injections but unlikely in this scenario.

Thanks @UncharteredWaters , I’ve just found out that I can self refer so I’m filling out the form for orthopaedics locally!
