Disclaimer: I’ve got a GP app in a week so this is more to stop me using Dr Google

background: was diagnosed with CFS/ME 10yrs ago however no significant symptoms other than fatigue for past few years.

recently had a slew of silly but annoying symptoms and whilst moaning about it to DH prompted him to say probably should just see GP as they are fairly random. I’ve booked an appointment but wondering if I’m wasting time and it’s possibly just diet / vitamin deficiency related!

Mild insomnia ( sleeping 2am-6am) can’t sleep before this

heart palpitations regularly especially in the evening without exertion

sore spot on my scalp that’s moved ( ie couldn’t physically bear to touch the front left, then the back right, now the back left!)

poor motor skills in my hand ( can grip fine on demand but past few weeks consistently dropping things or using the “ wrong” strength so accidentally sending stuff flying / mixing too hard and splashing stuff )

sciatica flare ups without back pain so numb toe / foot on occasion and shooting pain in thigh but not back

as I said totally random - I’ve begun taking a multivitamin as I’m aware I’ve not eaten and drunk as well as I should ( overweight)

B12 deficiency? Thyroid?

Sunshiiine · 30/01/2025 20:26

do you take magnesium glycinate? Magnesium levels are rarely tested and deficiency cause nerve symptoms, along with palpitations and trouble sleeping.

I started a generalised multivitamin a few days ago but nothing specific. I’m hoping they’ll at least take some bloods and reassure me it’s something boring. I’m wondering if it’s menopause related …

Are you sure they aren't just ME related? I have it too and anything random and non-specific like that usually ends up being nothing. It is neurological too which would explain the pain and motor issues

This is going to sound so stupid - that hasn’t even occurred to me 😳 I guess because I feel like it hasn’t impacted me in a long time overall it hadnt dawned on me it could be that. Embarrassingly

Don't be embarrassed! I just read your post and recognised I also get weird non-specifix symptoms similar to yours - poor grip, random aching knees, palpitations.
Have you looked at the international criteria for ME diagnosis? There are way more symptoms on there than the NICE

Just an update - saw GP and have bloods booked for tomorrow. They think likely a vitamin deficiency or stress - I’ve developed an eye twitch that also makes my eye sight move about if that makes sense and today very sudden severe muscle weakness.

should have results by the end of week just wanted to update as you were all so helpful and kind

Thanks for the update OP, I hope the results find something easily fixable for you. My friend was recently diagnosed with B12 deficiency and is feeling a lot better after injections of it.

Confusedbutnotconcernedyet · 04/02/2025 12:17

That’s great to hear. Had bloods taken this am and the nurse recommended an opticians visit for worsening eye twitch so off I went. Was seen promptly and all is fine but they asked about my blood pressure. I mentioned the GP didn’t check it during my appointment so she recommended popping to pharmacy just to check. It was 140/91 and usually I have low readings. They retook and lowest was 130/88 so they’ve suggested mentioning it to the GP.

went to add the form they gave me with results online and saw notes from appointment earlier in week which only mentions low mood repeatedly / history of depression etc … feeling a little dejected it’s been seemingly written off as a MH issue.

That's so frustrating that they've written low mood! If after all the investigations, you feel your GP isn't taking you seriously, it might be worth switching GP.

Confusedbutnotconcernedyet · 06/02/2025 14:47

Go hasn’t called but bloods show low vitamin D, low folate and low b12. So I had a quick google of those symptoms and what do you know - all relevant.

so not just “ low mood” 🙄 on the bright side I think it’s easily fixed! Thanks all

That's great news that there's an easily fixable cause! I'm happy for you OP, you can look forward to getting better.
