I think I'm severely constipated and have had hemorrhoids for years, I've had 2 flare up in the past 5 days! Yesterday I had diarrhea (overflow we think) and very very painful hemorrhoid I went to put in a suppository and blood was on my fingers!

I thought maybe the hemorrhoid has burst and was fine went to bed and got up this morning and the toilet was filled with bright red blood so obviously I panic about this and I ring the doctors!

I get into doctors she does an examination and sees I have an extremely large external hemorrhoid! Gives creams and suggests laxatives!

I get home tonight and I try go for a number 2 but nothing happened however in the toilet was jelly type blood (very very much TMI I'm sorry 😔)

Now I'm panicking that the doctors were wrong or can you bleed this much with hemorrhoids? It happens when I push for a wee too!

Haemorrhoids can bleed like crazy. They are very weak walled blood vessels so extra pressure, like being very constipated, makes them worse.

Unfortunately once you have them, they are there for life but if you make sure your bowels are OK you can usually get them better behaved.

I had very bad internal and external haemmhoroids but with careful diet; lots of fruits, veg, figs, prunes & dates plus a very good steroid ointment (prednisolone??) from the GP, mine have shrunk right down. Consultant said don't sit on the loo for ages, lift legs on a stool & the usual dietary advice. I decided to decline the operation unless they get really painful & I can't manage them.

Also get yourself a sitz bath and use warm saltwater in it.

This happened to DH last year. Absolutely tonnes of blood - GP wasn't interested (he has a long history of piles, but nohting like the amount of blood that was coming out) - he saw a consultant privately (on insurance) who did something to the heamhorroid, but it was still going so he went to A&E in desperation who referred him for a colonoscopy which came through quickly. All was well, but he was using DD's sanitary pads it was that bad!
