Persistent breast pain, worried

Hey, looking for some advice as I'm not sure whether to go back to my GP.

In 2018 I had my second DC and about six months later I got a constant dull pain in my left breast, kind of behind the nipple to the bottom right a bit.

I went to my GP and they couldn't feel anything but sent me for an ultrasound and they said nothing to worry about and we agreed it's likely how I was holding my baby. Basically swishing my boob! It improved overtime, as my DC got older and I was holding/carrying less.

My third baby came along almost two years ago and I'm having the same issue. This has been going on around 18 months and often keeps me awake (like tonight!). Again I had a scan and they said exactly the same thing.

I didn't breastfeed, however my left side wad the most tricky when I tried to.

Would an ultrasound scan definitely detect a lump/cancer if it was there? Are there any other scans I should ask for? I have private medical insurance but really not sure whether I need to have any other checks.

Sorry this was so long! X

Absolutely go back. Private health insurance is great for this as they send you to a one stop clinic usually. I'd push for a mammogram personally. Usually they do all the tests on the day and you see the consultant before you leave.

@Wibblywobblybobbly thank you. I'll try and sort an appointment. It'll put my mind at rest. I wasn't sure whether an ultrasound can completely rule out cancer or not.

I had a lot of pain in one breast but was sent for a mammogram and thankfully everything was okay. Breast cancer in family so I was very worried. I was early 40's and it was peri menopause symptom with me. I would push for a mammogram it will put your mind at ease. It is probably hormonal after having babies maybe get hormones tested too.

Thanks @mellowout I'm going to try that. Was the monogram through the NHS?

@imcountingtothree123 yes the nurse practitioner at my surgery fast tracked me so didn't have to wait long. Good luck.

Here to offer some reassurance! Absolutely push to get checked though. I’m 46, have 2 kids. Am on the high risk screening program due to family history, left breast was sore and enlarged for best part of 3 months. I was convinced I had cancer, got mammogram and ultrasound, all fine. It’s perimenopause symptom. Since last week it’s gone back to normal! It’s probably fine OP but do get checked x

They often use US on pre-menopausal women as mammograms aren't as reliable with dense, hormonal breast tissue. US sonographers absolutely know what they are looking for. When I was diagnosed with BC the ultrasound was used after mammogram to confirm.

Edited to add
Don't be put off getting checked because there is a myth that pain is never a symptom of BC. It can be, mine was. Having said that it does sound in your case unlikely.

Thank you. That's reassuring. I'll call my gp tomorrow. It's been on my mind for a while now and just didn't know how far to push x

@Boope did you have any other symptoms other than the pain?

Not at first but later a tiny lump.
