Bone marrow donors needed PLEASE LOOK

It's easy for me to say - I have MS and am therefore excluded from being a donor. But we had a letter from school today about a young girl who will die within weeks if a match isn't found. Just the thought of being in her family's shoes makes me weep. I wondered if I could just promote the register a bit? no need to publicly declare on mn - no "yep signed up", I'm not asking for that - it's too big a thing for that - but just take 5 minutes to have a look and see if you might be the kind of person who could do this. and maybe a silent bump for the thread. thanks.

Was registered while giving blood at 18, One of the little girls who is on a lot of the leaflets from the blood service was the sister of a lad in my sister's class at school.

Don't understand why you have to be between 18 and 40 to register, but must be prepared to be on the register until you are 60...any idea anyone?

I think it is maybe because of the costs of doing the initial tests - I think it costs £50 to process the initial sample, so maybe they think it isnt cost effective to start with people who have less years of being a potential donor.
I've been on the register for 13 years now, I've once had to give a second blood sample but it didnt go any further than that.
I read about that little girl on the bbc website, so sad. I hope they manage to get a donor for her.

Hi, I have been giving blood for around two years now and since the birth of dd I have been considering donating bone marrow (its a shame that it takes becoming a parent to start really caring for others), anyway, your message has spurred me on to find out more and register, so thank you.
