Possible thrush in 10mo? What to do?

My 10mo dd is on antibiotics for a chest infection. She has suddenly developed what appears to be a really sore bum, except more around her vulva, and this evening I noticed a white patch. I thought it was sudocream but didn't come off.

Is this thrush? Do I need to take her to the doctors or will a trip to the pharmacist do?

Anything else I need to know?

Nothing useful to say but poor both of you! Hope it gets sorted soon, whatever it is.

Trip to the GP - my DD had oral thrush after ABs and she refused feeds for a few days before I realised ....nystatin cleared it up in a few days...

Can't just get something over the counter then?

DH is meant to be taking her to his mum's tomorrow so I shall have to take her on Thursday.

Baggins had thrush on his bum last week. Teh HV prescribed cream which seems to be helping his bum, but he has a nasty patch behind his knee - could this be thrush too or is it just eczema?

Lo never been on ab's but has had bouts of nappy rash (some a bit fungal), I would say defo trip to gp / practice nurse or HV (all can sort script out) I have has Nystaform in the past and it was very good. In my experience if you leave it it gets really bad really fast.

My 11 mo ds had a sore bum a few weeks ago and no amount of sudocrem would shift it. A friend suggested canesten as it maybe thrush, i got the canesten for atheletes foot and it cleared up within a couple of days.

HTH

If you're desperate you can use canesten, which you can get over the counter, very sparingly. They will not give it to you if you say it's for a baby - that has to be on prescription. It definitely sounds like thrush and will clear up very quickly if treated soon.

Ria - I think whatever is behind the knee is likely to be exzema or an allergic reaction to a product, not thrush.

My Gp told me to use Sudocrem on my lo when she was a tiny baby as she told me it has antifungal properties in it. Worth a try. I had thrush in the breast and she already had it in her mouth, hence my enquiry to GP.

Thanks for the help. DH rang GP who just said "yep sounds exactly like thrush" and left a prescription at the desk for him, which is great really, saves a lot of time.
