Hi there I can’t find anything about this online so thought I’d ask here. Is your nhs dentist next of kin the same as your nhs doctors next of kin ?

Also how do I change my next of kin at the dentist ? Can I ask my actual dentist or would I have to ask at dentist reception ? Thank you

No, it doesn't have to be, It depends what you told them when they asked. The two systems aren't linked. Just ask the dental receptionist, they should be able to change it for you.

It really needs to be someone who can be contact if you become ill while at the dentist. GDPR means that they cannot discuss any treatment or personal details but if you collapse, faint, have an accident while on the premises they need a contact who can attend or organise someone else to attend.
So it can be anyone as long as they are aware that you have put them down as a next of kin or contact.
There’s no point in putting a family member down if they live on the other side of the world.

Thanks so much , do you know if they ask who should be your next of kin when you sign up ? I can’t remember if that was on the form when I enrolled at my new practice.

Yes they should do and usually do. However, I would definitely check if they have those details, and that you are happy with them.

I don't recall ever being asked. We review our online details every appointment and it asks for emergency contact but not nok.
