24 hour holter monitor result - 1,400 “episodes”

Hello!

I had a holter monitor a couple of weeks ago. I’ve just seen in the NHS app the results are back. The headline result says:

  • 1398x episodes of predominantly diurnal sinus tachycardia.

Just wondering if this is particularly abnormal? It seems a lot to me but if the GP hasn’t called and the result has been there for a few days… No abnormal rhythm it seems, so I guess that is why GP has not called to discuss?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

It just means that your heart rate was high all the time. There are 1440 minutes in 24 hours.

Thanks for the reply! Makes sense but just wondering why it says “predominantly diurnal”. If high all the time why not just say that iyswim?

I can't recall my exact figures but after a 24 hour monitor I was given a diagnosis of inappropriate sinus tachycardia. I also have POTS confirmed by lean test and tilt table test. I've been put on propranolol while waiting to be reviewed by the cardiologist. It's helped massively and even on a relatively low dose my resting heart rate has come down from high 80s/low 90s to low 70s. I still spike on being upright but nowhere near as badly and I generally feel much better. Mine was all a result of having covid.

Hopefully you'll have the full report downloaded to your NHS app so you can have a look. I would hope that whoever ordered the test has organised a follow up for you.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m glad you’re feeling better. Hopefully you don’t have to wait too long to see a cardiologist.

I’ll be following this up with my GP but I suspect it’s not too urgent. I was curious more than anything, as I don’t really have any symptoms.
