just wondering if Gps usually call you in to talk about cholesterol following results of a health check ?
thank you

If it's high they will, because they'll want to bang you on statins. I've refused them as they give me horrific night cramps. They've put me on Ezetimibe now. But yes it's normal for them to call about this.

Of course it is normal. There would be little point in having the blood test if they didn’t call you if your results were out of the normal range.

I should add not to overly worry. I’ve had high cholesterol and they talked through some changes I could make to bring it down. I’m on statins now without any side effects so far.

does the gp want to see you even if it’s just a little out of normal range ?

Yes, could be you have other risk factors? (family history, medical issues, weight/lifestyle etc)

Tamarastar · 26/01/2025 17:57

It says here COQ10 is supposed to reduce stains side effects if that's helpful! (am not a medic!)

No they often won't - high LDL cholesterol and its risk of cardiovascular disease is massively underdiagnosed so consider yourself lucky.

Statins will bring your cholesterol back into the normal range, so there is nothing to worry about. Lifestyle and diet changes may also be advised - but who doesn't want to drop a size?

Side effect vary by the person and the particular statin prescribed, so cross that bridge when you come to it.

I don’t know what my cholesterol is . I find out tomorrow at the gps . My friend who lives in a different county saw a nurse .
I’m just wondering why I’m seeing a dr and is this usual .

I'm on low dose of statins .. first l took one every morning and l got awful restless legs and cramps. A specialist told me to take on a night also for better effect... and it disappeared.
Also heart problems run in my family so I'm happy to take them to prevent that.

ADealingMummy · 27/01/2025 16:10

Did the dr want to chat to you about it or was it a nurse ?

This sort of thing is what doctors are for, you're lucky you have one that cares.

Your GP may suggest diet/exercise changes if it’s not particularly high and retake bloods in 3 months, that’s what they did for me, but GP asked me about parents history, DF had heart problems and DM died of a stroke, so that said, GP put me on medication to lower levels. Each year now, I see the nurse for blood tests and results
