Does anyone else get the restless/ weird skin feeling?

I don't know how to describe it. It's not just my legs, it's my whole body. It just feels really weird, like I have to move that limb to get rid of the feeling. But then it comes back.

I had it last night when I couldn't sleep, also felt hot and itchy. Today I'm tired because I haven't slept enough and I still feel the same. It's almost like a kind of itching, skin crawling, restless feeling. I can't describe it any better than that.

Just wondered if anyone else gets this?

I'm early sixties, post menopausal, taking levothyroxine, sertraline, lots dose amitriptyline, as well as vits d and b12. I've had it on and off for many years, sometimes it goes away, then months, sometimes even years later it comes back.

I've not spoken to my gp about it, always felt it was too trivial.

I get it in my arms, I call it restless arms cuz it's exactly the same feeling as restless legs but in the wrong limbs lol. Magnesium is meant to be good for it.

NancyJoan · 23/01/2025 20:56

Yes, when tired. My body feels fizzy.

Restless legs syndrome, but in fact can affect any area of the body. I get it in my legs, arms, fingers etc. For me it is often hormone related, but also occurs most prominently when I am anaemic,

Please do speak to your GP about it - it isn’t trivial. It can be truly debilitating.

Thanks for the replies. I do rub magnesium into my knees every night to help with pain and sleep. I thought it must be restless legs syndrome, but my limbs don't jersey, they just feel funny.

Hi I get this all the time, I’m on levothyroxine too but didn’t get this before I changed to Vencamil because I need lactose free. I think it’s medication related although my Dr doesn’t think so but then again she is not take levothyroxine!

Originalmemberr · 24/01/2025 23:48

I did wonder if it's medication related. I think I had it before I started taking levothyroxine though.

Try Epsom salt baths. I probably do one at least once a week. Definitely recommend. I know the feeling you mean.

I had restless legs when on antidepressants but didn't know it was connected until I came off them, restless legs went away, then came back when I started taking the antidepressants again.

This is a possibility. I'm decreasing my dose at the moment, but the restlessness is getting worse! Maybe it's due to the changing dose and will stop at some point.

I used to get this on sertraline- it's the weirdest feeling, really hard to describe - but I totally recognise from your description. I think I recall it was when my sertraline dose was a little too high, can you reduce slightly? Definitely speak to dr re reducing and I'm confident you see this improve.

Ps I found doing a couple of yoga poses would help, child's pose and downward dog

Welcome to the world of Restless Leg Syndrome 😞. You have my full sympathies, OP.

Mine first started in pregnancy 17yrs ago, and I remember going to see my GP virtually in tears from exhaustion, and her having to look RLS up online, as she had never heard of the condition before! Thankfully, there is a lot more knowledge about it now.

In the last year or two, I have started to notice it in other parts of my body, and have linked it to being perimenopausal. It’s frustrating, as I have methods I use to ease it in my legs (walk around/cold air on legs etc), but struggle to ease it when in arms etc. It’s also interesting to see Sertraline mentioned, as I have been on and off of it (mainly on it) since the birth of child 17yrs ago.

Originalmemberr · 25/01/2025 11:17

Interesting to know it could be linked to Sertraline. I am reducing my dose anyway so will hope for an improvement.

I'll try that, wondering if it's an overwhelmed nervous system that yoga calms.
