I've had a few.
Always sedation.
It's not like being drunk.. just a relaxed sleepy feeling. Canula for sedation..
The doctor will spray back of your throat.. nurse will put a mouth piece in.. ( ask for that at very last minute) .
It honestly only takes a very very short time .
Lay on your side.. nurse will hold your hand.. it's all over before you know it.. matter of a very minutes. I've never felt a thing... just a tad discomfort...
Wishing you all the best.
Good luck x

I had my first one a few months ago with a bit of sedation. I didn't feel drunk at all, I could see properly, speak, answer when spoken to, walk etc. It just helped me relax when I was feeling anxious about the procedure. It was really easy and over with so quickly.

I had one with sedation. I did not feel at all woozy or "out of it". I have quite a strong gag reflex and was worried about that, but it was fine. I could feel the scope throughout but it was not painful.

Hi,
I hope it went well.

I had one done today so wanted to share my experience in case anyone reads this in the future.

I've had a previous failed endoscopy with throat spray and was terrified. This time I opted for sedation and throat spray. It was fine. I explained about my previous procedure and that I was nervous. They gave me some extra sedation. My heart rate was still high so they gave me some more.

After that, I felt the tube go in but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought. The nurse told me to focus on breathing which I did. I felt the tube once or twice during the procedure but can't really remember much else. When I was done I asked "did you do it? Did I manage it?". It really wasn't as bad as I'd pictured it. If I had to have it again I wouldn't be nearly as scared.

I hope that's reassuring for anyone reading this.
