Morning everyone .
on Tuesday and Wednesday last week my 4 year old and husband both had a sickness and diahhrea bug- my little boy was still having small amounts off diahhrea once or twice a day till Monday ( 3 days ago)I’ve been to the hospital the last 2 days for appointments…..I started being sick in the early hours of this morning , so 8 days after my son and husband started with it - is this likely to be the same bug they have had ? Or a new one from the hospital? I was extremely careful with hygeine in the hospital- I’m worrying incase this is a new bug and my little one picks it up :(

I guess it's impossible to tell for certain but most likely the bug from home. With it being a week post your dh&dc being symptomatic I'd say you've caught it from touch points at home. How diligent have you been with disinfecting (bleach) and hand washing? It can live on surfaces for up to 2wks and they'll still be shedding the virus in their stool for up to 2wks also.

We're currently going through norovirus in our home since Saturday, it's really knocked us for six.

Norovirus lives on surfaces for up to 2-3 weeks and you only need a tiny amount to get ill so it’s possible that you’ve caught it from a surface in your house that hasn’t been bleached. That could be somewhere that your husband or son has touched while they were ill or spray contamination from miniscule vomit particles that are too small to be seen when one of them vomited.

Ohwtfnow · 23/01/2025 08:17

Oh, and it will also be in their poo for a couple of weeks so if one of them hasn’t washed their hands properly or the toilet hasn’t been cleaned (even after their symptoms stopped) or the lid was up when they flushed it can be transmitted that way.

Sorry to hear your going through this too x
I’ve been really careful with hand washing and hygiene , but I guess it only takes me to miss abit of the virus x
would be a massive coincidence it being a different bug surely…..
the day in question I think I caught it was Monday - within the space of 10 seconds my little lad pooped his pants , my phone was ringing and the delivery man at the door so I don’t think I was as careful as I would usually have been x

It sounds so easily done to catch it doesn’t it :( surely it’s too much of a coincidence that I’ve caught a different bug ….. panicking a little😬

Oh it's absolute hell and you have my full sympathy too. We were very careful with hygiene too but I think with us catching it within 48hrs it was more likely we got it from airborne particles while DS was actively being sick rather than touching stuff.

Mpark · 23/01/2025 09:25

I just can’t help but panic that I’ve caught something from the hospital and my little lad will be poorly again :( xxx

I understand the fear I really do. All you can do is be very careful still with hygiene. Don't prepare any food for him if possible let your husband do that.

Thankyou xx I’m sorry to be a pain . Do you think it’s the same one they’ve had? Xx

Norovirus incubation period is usually 36 hours, give or take. Where were you around 36 hours before you started having symptoms? That should indicate where you caught it. Even if you were at the hospital it’s probably the same bug as norovirus is rife at the moment.

I do in my opinion but no one can ever know for sure, not even medical professionals.

i was home from the hospital but the bug was son and husband had had an incubation of around 50-70 hours. Do you think my son will be safe from what I’ve had ?

You don’t know that it was 50-70 hours as your husband may have caught it from a surface, not while your son was vomiting. I can’t say if he’ll be ok if you caught it from hospital or not. It’s likely the same bug and he’ll be fine but nobody knows for sure.

Nogodsnomasters · 23/01/2025 10:41

Are you still being sick op? Is your dh looking after your ds? Just try your best to stay separated.

My son caught it from eating out on Saturday - he started with diahhrea Monday afternoon (which my husband cleaned up as I was out ) then he started being sick the day after around 11pm- my husband started being sick about 3 hours after him . So I assume my husband caught it off of the clean up on Monday x

Can you sleep elsewhere while DS and dh have your bed if you're feeling very anxious about it all?

Mpark · 23/01/2025 10:49

only other place is the sofa but he will be downstairs playing there tomorrow so I don’t know if it will help x i dont feel well enough to do a full scale bleach clean either:(

Unfortunately these things happen from time to time and there is no way around them, I wish there was as we're all suffering terribly too but this time next week it will all be over and will be a horrid memory!

Thankyou for replying love . Sorry to hear you’re not well either .
Is not common to have it 8 days after the rest of the household ?
