can anyone recommend a suncream for children with long hair? i hate how it goes in their hair which then goes all greasy!

stick a swimming hat on them! no idea but would love to know!and it makes there shirt collars dirty

Tie it back or use a headband/alice band.

I only put a few dabs on dd's face tbh (nose cheeks, chin)

nailpolish · 06/05/2008 14:41

hmm maybe i am being overenthusiastic and applying too much

I plaited my daughter's very long straight hair on our recent holiday. It looked sweet and kept it out of the suncream.

If they have long hair then the back of hte neck and ears are usually covered (plus forehead if they have a fringe).

I make mine wear floppy hats too!

nailpolish · 06/05/2008 14:44

what suncreams do you use?

Last year it was a Mothercare 50+ (yesterday I noticed that the use by date had run out) so now I'm using Boots 40+ (I think it's called Soltan). I've got 2 small bottles with a pump action and dd took one to school today.

nailpolish · 06/05/2008 14:50

thanks mercy

i quite like soltan for myself so will check it out

I use a hairband & tie hair back for girls

with the boys I just tolerate the mess

tis better than skin cancer

i also use soltan (BOGOF at teh moment)

its IMPOSSIBLE to use too much lotion nailpolish. most people use too little and rub it in, which reduces teh protection. you need to plaster it on and let it soak in before going out in the sun

if your kids hair is messy its a sign you are a good mummy

Bergaderm. Brilliant stuff. It doesn't rub off onto clothes and it is absorbed deeper into the skin than other suncreams so does not need to be reapplied so often. I buy mine from www.sunshinehealth.co.uk/. Very speedy and reliable delivery, and it's the cheapest I've found on the web (don't seem to be able to find it in shops at all).

This year I've gone for an Aloe Vera one that sinks in really quickly and doesn't leave skin greasy - Foreverliving is the company and although not a kids one is subtible for kids and is a high factor. I also keep a stick one in my bag which is great for little faces.

Avène factor 40 spray. Excellent.

(My DP sells loads of brands of suncream in his shops - this stuff is the best for children).

loads of good tips

thanks

With plaited hair - don't forget to put cream on the ears! once dd got crispy ears so I'm ultra careful now.
