Not in a good way

I'm not feeling great. I'm breathless, fatigued, have joint pain and muscle weakness and am very stiff.

I contacted my Dr and she took my weight, blood pressure, listened to my heart and lungs and did some blood tests.

This was all done at home as I'm housebound. She said she'd do it as a favour. The problem is the bloods were not collected which rendered them unusable.

I bought some supplements:

Magnesium
Probiotics
Omega 3
B complex
Multi vitamin
Iron
Vitamin D

I got a few calls from the surgery to redo the blood tests and explained that I couldn't come in. I then sent off an e consult and it's come back telling me to book blood tests.

I'm not sure where to go from here as it's obvious my Dr won't redo the blood tests.

Any advice?

Can you book the bloodtests via your local hospital website?

Floralnomad · 22/01/2025 00:51

Is there no possible way at all for you to go and have the blood tests as there is probably a limit to what they can do without having any tests .

Bloodtests123 · 22/01/2025 04:12

I understand that I need to do the blood tests but unfortunately am housebound. I contacted my local hospital to get some advice. I also looked into home testing kits but they're expensive and I don't know what to test for.

Have you called the GO and explained you need blood tests and are housebound? What have they suggested?

Do district nurses take blood? Could that be an option?

My Dr came to my house and did blood tests but the bloods weren't picked up and couldn't be used. She obviously doesn't want to do it again and has asked me to book in a blood test appointment.

As far as I'm aware the phlebotomists visit you if you're housebound and your GP refers you. I contacted my local hospital phlebotomy department and asked what the procedure is. I'm waiting to hear back from them.

You need to contact your GP practice, either by phone or online.
Explain the situation to receptionist. There are lots of people in this situation, they will know what to do, which is refer you to the district nurses lined to your practice and they will come to your home and take your blood

I've spoken to the GP surgery 3 times and explained the situation. Each time they said they'd speak to my Dr. I heard nothing so I filled out an e consult and received a request to make an appointment for a blood test.

They need to speak to the nurses, not the Dr. You need sharp elbows unfortunately with some healthcare providers.
I would call again, but insist the call doesn’t end until you are sure they completely understand the situation and are on their way to finding a soloution

HawkTUAHspitonthatthing · 22/01/2025 08:14

im not sure what your circumstances look like. If you are able to move about is there a way someone can take you to an appt?? They are very quick. I dont imagine many doctors want to visit patients only to take blood.

I have just got off the phone, exactly the same response - they need to speak to my Dr. I did say that it's usually arranged through the nurses but they insisted.

I have a disability which means I am housebound.

Do you never leave the house? I know that the threshold for house visits has become very high and if you ever leave the house the expectation is you will attend the surgery.

YoureLucky · 22/01/2025 09:12

Your doctors surgery sounds awful OP. The other posters believe it or not some people cannot leave their homes.

Bloodtests123 · 23/01/2025 10:53

We have progress. The surgery just called and have booked me in for the end of February. Thanks everyone for your support and advice.
