Hip pain at 52

Every now and then, I get a pain on the front of my left hip. I am 52 years old, it started last summer. It seemed to be worse after long periods of inactivity (office job) so I have started to walk to work and noticed that I have felt the pain less often but it's still present now and then. It's so hard to get a GP appointment and I'm not really sure that it warrants one. I am assuming arthritis or something like that. I just wondered if anyone else experiences anything similar and if there are any tips on how I could try to alleviate it myself?

Thank you for reading.

I have similar pain/ache in my left hip. I tend to sleep on this side more so have tried to rotate the best I can. Try stretching when you wake up or sat for long periods. Walking does help me once I'm warmed up it tends to ease x

It sounds like it might be to do with your hip flexors. A physio appointment will be more useful than a GP. I have the same pain, mine is due to hypermobility and arthritis, all linked.

Mine started at 52 too. Post menopause. I've not been to the GP yet though.

Just to add that mine is my left hip too. I used to push up on just that hip when getting up from the floor/bath/high step from my sunken drive onto the garden path but now I use the proper steps and don't put all the weight on that hip.

Thank you all so much!

Update for anyone else with a similar problem. Since I have been walking to work and walking in the evenings more, the pain has completely stopped. A nurse friend said it was probably 'Bursitis'.
