Piriformis syndrome, anyone?

A recent diagnosis of piriformis syndrome has left me feeling deflated and like I'm stuck with this pain forever now.

Bit of a background, sore lower back for over 10 months now, one spot in particular is tender to the touch. 7 months ago I had a nasty fall, symptoms got a lot worse. Nerve pain down my right leg, buttocks down to my foot. If I've over done it, which can be sitting too long, walking a distance etc I'm in a lot of pain despite being on prescription painkillers and a tricyclic antidepressant. A lumbar MRI has ruled out any disc involvement. A diagnosis of piriformis syndrome has been given and now I'm feeling really down.

Has anyone else had this syndrome, is it coupled with lower back pain? Despite the medication I'm on I'm still in daily pain and now with the diagnosis I feel so deflated and lost?

Yes, regular trigger Pilates and use of prickle balls tend to keep it at bay without any medication.

Hello! I’ve had it for nearly 10 years. It’s a PITA, literally! but improves when I do proper targeted exercises to build the muscles which relieve the pressure on the nerve.

I have it in the buttocks but not elsewhere.

Yes. Acupuncture relieved the pain. Physio and pilates managed it over the longer term. The pain is severe, I feel for you.

Yes me too. Do you see a physio OP?

Oh and I saw a chiropractor when it initially happened, I couldn't walk. He explained it in more detail than the physio or doctor x

Orthotic insoles sorted it for me, I discovered this accidentally by buying a pair of Birkenstock sandals which also have high arch support. Took a couple of weeks to show improvement and I still get the odd flare up but only for a few days maybe once a year.

Feeling super low today, the pain is driving me to distraction and following a telephone call with the doctor today she has confirmed I do have a disc bulge. The physiotherapist who I spoke to said I had no disc involvement whatsoever. An increase on the medication I'm already on is starting tonight, hopefully try and get this pain under control 🤞

Yes I’ve not been diagnosed buttt for the last 6 weeks I think maybe even more I’ve had this pain in my left buttocks all the way down my leg, worse at night and the muscle spasms really intense, sleeping is not consistent because of it and sitting or walking is just constant dull pain! It’s really brought me down, I’m only 31 but I feel so inflexible
