Not a medic.

The double negative is confusing but I would say the current MRI shows no abnormal blood flow, the same as the last time. Sounds like good news.

I really feel letters like this need to have a summary sentence or paragraph at the bottom in plain English.

Absence of abnormal flow, consistent with the previous thrombosis doesn't make any sense to me (not a medic). Essentially saying 'normal flow consistent with...' Why would normal flow be consistent with a past thrombosis?

Sounds like an error to me. Plus they've already proved their sloppiness in the last line. I'd chase it up and speak to someone for clarity.

Medic here. I think there’s been a dictation/transcribing error which hasn’t been picked up during sign off, as I agree otherwise it’s a very confusing double negative. I spend at least a couple of hours per week going through my letters with a fine toothed comb for exactly this reason before signing them off, as it’s so easy for things to be transcribed incorrectly, but I know I am blessed to have the time to do so. Others may not have the capacity. I would contact the relevant secretary and ask the clinician to clarify.

Either way, and with the caveat of knowing nothing of your history, given that no actions have been suggested in the letter, I wouldn’t be worrying too much at the moment, but definitely worth straightening out.

Thanks everyone. It is confusing. I'll ring the DR Monday.
