Has anyone else experienced this in a family member?

He does drink alcohol, Fri & sat & some Sundays. Always beer. (Side note : no worry of domestic violence etc in a very happy marriage) - I do wonder why suddenly seeing yellow around the outside of his eyes, near crows feet area..
Would it be major cause of worry? Or have an honest chat - not sure he'll appreciate it, but hey might just have to?

Yes. Get him to the gp

Overthebow · 18/01/2025 21:20

Yes absolutely get him to go to the GP on Monday.

Seawolves · 18/01/2025 21:23

I would push him to get an urgent GP appointment.

It indicates a potential liver problem but doesn't mean he is an alcoholic. Some medications and gallstone issues etc can also cause issues.

InfoSecInTheCity · 18/01/2025 21:25

Is this the whites of his eyes, or the skin around his eyes?

Does he have any other signs of liver problems? Is he experiencing any pain around his torso?

He definitely needs to see a GP, but if he has active pain that's come on recently and he maybe hasn't volunteered that information to you then it may be worth speaking to 111.

Yes, urgent Dr appt. It can be liver or pancreas causing it.

If it's the skin around his eyes then my DH gets this in the winter. He needs a good holiday and more vitamin d.

sarahjnm · 18/01/2025 22:00

Thank you for the replies - thing is I really don't think he's noticed it himself, think it might be hard to spot when your bathroom mirror isn't in the best light etc, so I will feel very uncomfortable talking to him about it, but it's worth it. I agree

He has none of the symptoms you've said above.

Maybe it's vit d deficiency then?

It's on the skin next to his eyes - not on the eye itself. Where his crows feet would be.

Is it the skin looking yellow or is it like yellow raised patches?

A relative developed yellow flat slightly raises areas around their eyes and it was high cholesterol causing some sort of fatty deposit under the skin.

If it's on the skin outside of his eyes he is probably using a cream of something that's doing it.

Could be high cholesterol

sarahjnm · 18/01/2025 22:48

He doesn't moisturise

Xanthelasma. I have that. Sometimes associated with high cholesterol but not always.

Let the GP have a look

SummerFeverVenice · 18/01/2025 23:07

If he’s 40+ he is allowed a complete well check with full blood count at least once a year on request. If you’re not comfortable raising yellow skin with him, why not encourage him to book a well check? I got my DH to go by saying the car gets an MOT once a year, you should to. You are more important than the car…
