How to entertain baby when you're ill yourself?!

Got home from work yesterday and felt absolutely rotten, had a temp of 39.9 so DH sent me to bed. Thankfully I don't work a Friday. I was hoping I'd feel more human when I woke up but I'm pretty sure I have tonsillitis (miraculously got an appointment for later today).

How on earth do I keep my DS (16 months) entertained all day when I can barely keep my eyes open. DH will come straight home from work around 5ish but the day feels like a week! Any tips please?!

This is a day for simplicity. Keep meals, and activities simple. Plenty of toys out and TV will possibly ve useful. As long is dc is safe, warm and fed, you'll both be okay. Do you have nobody at all to look after your dc for the day? Hope you feel better soon.

@Bbq1 Thank you! My mom has just agreed to watch him for a couple of hours this morning before she heads to work, she's my hero!

CBeebies and toast. Although 16 months is probably a bit young to be entertained by TV for long. I had a mum friend who worked the same days as me, we use to go and be ill in each others houses and he well one looked after both dc.

TV and toys you can supervise from the sofa.

Give him a job - obviously at 16 months this won't actually be a proper job you need doing, I just mean a task. Once when I was ill I gave my toddler the laundry basket that had clean clothes in it, and told her the clothes needed to be put on the sofa on the other side of the room, and could she help mummy by doing that. Then after she'd done that, she suggested that they needed to go back in the basket. Took her ages and she was quite happy toddling back and forth.

When my DS was that age he liked to play fetch like a dog 😄 I would roll the ball down the hallway and he'd get it and bring it back to me. Wore him out a bit and I could stay still. I also used to get some pens, paints or crayons and some paper and stick him in the bath with it all. He was contained and entertained, and I just sat on the floor next to him. Easy clean up aswell as it's all in the bath. Good luck!

Saucepans, wooden spoons, raw pasta, lots of plastic crockery, he can make a carpet picnic on a rug while you snuggle up on the sofa.

Amazing suggestions, thank you all so much!

Just some sympathy it's miserable when you're poorly. I too had a toddler who liked to play fetch! Also he would sometimes play at me being his baby and he'd put me to bed although not for long before he bellowed WAKE UP BABY in my face.

I had one time where I was in sole charge of a nine month old while I had a terrible sick bug. Honestly worst six hours of my life I think.

We have 3 toddlers and this happened me a few weeks ago.i had glandular fever 🥵 but luckily the little ones don't watch much tv so the novelty of it being on all day kept them entertained and my mum very kindly dropped in fruits, biscuits and nibbles for them so all I had to do was open a box 😆 first time I ever let them eat in the sitting room but I just felt so ill 🤧 hope your better soon

Cartoons. I also keep the room door closed so baby doesn’t leave the room which means I have to get up, so he’s always in my vision whilst I lie down on the sofa.

And dose up on paracetamol and ibruprofen.

Great! Now, you can fully relax for a couple of hours stress free knowing that ds is getting well looked after and having a nice time with his Nan. Hopefully, your mum will tire him out a bit too!

TV and easy meals and snacks. Lie yourself down on the sofa and surround your DC with toys and switch cbeebies on.
No housework.
One day like that won't do any harm at all.

Miss Rachael, snacks and an easy day.
