Omeprazole when will I notice it's working?

My H.Plyori test came back negative. I've just taken my fifth omeprazole 20mg this morning.

I can still feel the pain when I press my stomach (note not abdominal) and burping. Everything I read says ill notice a difference in two days. I'm so scared it's going to be something else (like c) causing my symptoms! I think I'm on them for stomach ulcer but not sure.

When did you start noticing it was working for you? I had the symptoms for a good few months now.

I have stopped drinking decaf coffee. Is there anything else I should be doing to my diet? My doctor didn't tell me.

Thanks for reading.

GP put in my notes no mass so I assuming if it was hiatus hernia he would have felt it?

A hiatus hernia is located in the oesophagus, so cannot be felt externally (unlike the type that would protrude through the muscle wall)

I'd also request an endoscopy. It's now my hiatus hernia was diagnosed aged 45. They are very common (especially in the over 50s)

Omeperzole never worked for me. There are others you can try though. They always start with that first as I believe it's the cheaper drug.

I've been diagnosed (by examination only) a couple of times with an ulcer.

The first time Esomeprazole worked, taken for a month.

The second time, years later, I bought Esomeprazole and took for about 10 days before seeing GP. He prescribed Lansoprazole which worked better for me.

I know the earlier symptoms now, so purchase Esomeprazole, very reasonably priced on Amazon or from supermarket, and it works quite quickly.

I have had an endoscopy with colonoscopy, privately, but this was for a different issue. It seemed unnecessary to have an endoscopy to diagnose an ulcer when the examination indicated the problem and the prescribed medication resolved the issue.

So long as you aren't getting worse, the medication might just need a bit longer for you to start feeling the difference, or you might need a different PPI.

You cannot diagnose an ulcer based on symptoms. I had all the symptoms including severe stomach pain and GI bleeding and endoscopy showed it wasn't an ulcer. More likely to be gastritis which is resolved by taking the PPIs.

Omeprazole didn't work for me. There are better ones. But try buscopan meanwhile

Thanks for the reassurance all, I need to stop working myself up over things. I'll give the medication more time and hope it does the trick.
