Any ideas what this could be?

Over the past few days these mysterious bumps have appeared on one foot. They are nowhere else. I'll be going to a pharmacy tomorrow, but does anyone know what they could be? I wondered if it could be athlete's foot, but i haven't had that in years, and when it did it was more of a flaky, non bumpy appearance (sorry, gross!). It feels tingly rather than itchy.

Shingles maybe if it's tingly

Covidwoes · 15/01/2025 20:58

@MissMoneyFairy I did wonder that, but I didn't think you could get shingles on the sole of your foot! Mind you, I guess you could get it anywhere? I'm a teacher and someone I know has it, but I know you can't catch shingles, just chickenpox (which I've had).

If the bumps have fluid its could be pompholyx eczema. Or maybe a plantar wart. If they are fleshy and with a dimpled centre could be molluscum contagiosum.

@Gravitasdepleted it does look similar to the photos of pompholyx, although some of the bumps aren't blisters. I'll mention that to the pharmacist as a suggestion. Thank you!

It does look a little like the start of pompholx eczema. Does it itch?

Covidwoes · 15/01/2025 21:49

@GG1986 not really. It feels more tingly than itchy.

Hand foot and mouth virus?

Covidwoes · 15/01/2025 22:22

@Mooosewoman no hand or mouth spots thankfully! My other foot is also fine.

I too think it's pompholyx eczema. I get it on my feet, currently one foot, and my hands. It can be tingly and then itchy. I zoomed in on your photo and it looks like you have a few of the blisters above close together.

Covidwoes · 16/01/2025 18:11

The pharmacist said chilblains, but I'm not convinced!

It looks like my pompholyx eczema breakouts. I only ever get it on one foot (the right in my case) and over the course of a couple of weeks the bumps become blisters which then drain at some point and dry out, leaving a flaky layer of dead skin (which I perversely get a buzz from peeling off sometimes 😳😄)

I get fewer breakouts as I've got older and my diet has changed. They're generally not sore as such, but can itch at times. Hope you get a firm diagnosis at some point OP, to rule anything else out. I know they look a bit unsightly but they're harmless enough in my experience.
