Miscarriage and pain two weeks after

EDIT** I have posted in a different category but no response so want to try this one..

Hey all,
Unfortunately I had a miscarriage and had my MVA procedure two weeks ago now, well two weeks and a few days.
Since then I've been ok to be honest, I did go to the EPU a few days after my operation and honestly the reason being was just anxiety. I didn't know what was normal and what wasn't and I was scared, they did some bloods, all normal, no infection markers everything looked good but they gave anti biotics anyway for my 'peace of mind' which I didn't take, well I took 3 tablets and honestly I just stopped because they made me feel worse and I knew there was no infection as they said.
regarding my symptoms, bleeding stopped pretty quick and so me and my partner had sex 9 days post MVA, doctor said so long as the bleeding has stopped we should be fine, was a bit tender but was better than I expected, we did it again a few days ago and I was not expecting it to be as painful as it was, albeit we were a bit more 'friskier' this time so maybe that's why, but we stopped during it as it did hurt a fair bit, again I was fine after, no lasting pains.
I also want to add since I had my MVA procedure I have had constipation/diarrhoea and today I had my first normal bowel movement, it was excruciating and it was felt only in my pelvis, it hurt so bad!! I've had pain all day since in my back and pelvis, it's also going down my legs (which I'm used to when my period is due) but not this level of pain...I called the EPU back and they said it's ok that I didn't take the anti biotics fully as the bloods were all fine anyway, they said likely the miscarriage has triggered ibs as that can happen often they said, they also said I'm probably fine and it's my body going back to normal, that it's also normal to feel a bit tender, if I get a fever or heavy bleeding that would be more of a concern to them and I should go back but they also said if the pain persists, just give them a call that they will be happy for me to come back in but for now they don't see the need and they think it will self resolve.
I'm a bit of an anxious person as it is but is this really normal? I never had bad pain before so for the fact it's starting out of nowhere does worry me, I even thought maybe the sex triggered it from a few days back but I just don't know. Has anyone gone through this or can offer some reassurance for me please? I'm not looking for medical advice, I've spoken to the EPU but I'm just scared as the pain is hurting a fair amount. I've took paracetamol about an hour ago so I am just waiting for it to kick in.

I think it’s normal, mine was quite a long time ago but I remember being really uncomfortable for a few weeks after. I didn’t have sex that early on afterwards so assume this may have made your pain worse.

If you get heavy bleeding etc though get in contact with your GP or EPU for a check up.

This happened to me 12 years ago. My miscarriage triggered ibs and the pain was unbelievable! I didn’t believe them it was ibs because I didn’t realise how severe it could be, I genuinely thought it was my appendix or something!
12 years on I still have flare ups it’s a long journey and caused my anxiety to rocket.
keep a food diary of your triggers. Good luck op x

The pain for me is always on my right side. Dry sharp stabbing pain, literally takes my breath away and nothing helps. When it starts the. Eat thing to do even though it’s AGONY, is keep walking around. This helps to move things along more.

Thank you, I think the sex probably did have some affect on it too... but the bleeding stopped and I felt totally fine so I just got the advice from them and they gave me the ok, after reading online (probably should have done this before hand) but I can see most wait two weeks... my mistake 🙈 I've got no bleeding, no fever but the pain is honestly awful. Even sitting down I can feel it, hopefully it passes sooner rather than later!

Thank you, I've never felt pain like this, it's in my lower back, down my legs, pelvis everywhere it's honestly horrible, I'm not doubling over in pain, but I have a low pain tolerance as it is 😔 - paracetamol didn't do much so I've took ibuprofen now, it's honestly awful

Thank you, I'm worried it's not even ibs as it feels very period pain like, it's going down my legs and everything, but the nurse I spoke to said that she isn't concerned, they look for heavy bleeding or a fever as the tell tale signs for endometritis (the infection I'm worried about) so she said for now it's ok but if the pain does persist or get worse I should give them a call back. I am a worrier so I don't want to keep pestering them. It's been such a rough two ish months now 😔

Yeah abit odd if it’s down your legs. Maybe ask for a second opinion- you don’t always get fever etc if there’s a little bit of tissue left over- it could also be some kind of scarring but i would definitely be asking for a scan or something x

Lizzyloox · 15/01/2025 20:44

@Cornecopia so I've already had a scan and everything was removed, before I fell pregnant I was having gyno issues, just before my period is due I got bad pain and pain going down my legs, I was on waiting list for an endo laparoscopy, still am. But maybe now my period may be coming and that's why??? I had the scan after my MVA to make sure and he said everything's gone, I had bloods a few days after because I was anxious and they never told me what to expect, bloods were normal. This was about a week and half ago now, so I'm just not sure what's going on😩😩
